How much does a truck repair cost in Vancouver?

In Vancouver, basic truck repairs like oil change or brake pad replacements can range from $150 to $800. Meanwhile, major repairs that may involve the engine or transmission can go from $3,000 to $10,000.

How we chose:

  • Parts on-hand: We checked if the truck repair shops are always ready with spare parts, especially most common ones.
  • Availability: We considered truck repair shops that can accept walk-ins. We also checked how fast they respond to client’s queries.
  • Turnaround time: We assessed how fast they can repair trucks, especially those that only require minor fixes.
  • Convenience: We included truck repair shops that offer mobile repair truck services, perfect for emergency breakdowns. Plus points for those that remain open 24/7.

We were driving around Vernon Drive when our mini truck started acting up. Initially we thought the driver was just bad at hitting the brakes, but the jerking went on for a couple of minutes.

We just went with the flow until the check engine light flashed before us. Good thing, Fowler Auto & Light Truck Repairs was literally just a drive away from us.

To be honest, we weren’t really expecting too much. We thought that we would just have a quick check-up here, and just take the truck somewhere else for a thorough diagnosis.

But these guys stepped up and proved to us that we found the right place for our mini truck. Even if one of their mechanics was already working on a car, he took the time to quickly check our truck.

A few minutes later, they assigned a specific mechanic that will work on our case and went straight to work. If you’re after transparency, you’ll love that they will show you the damaged or worn parts right before they replace them.

And while we love to get back on the road at the soonest possible time, they informed us that the repair would take time. Nonetheless, we appreciated that they didn’t rush things, which gave us more confidence on the road.

Pros

  • No random surprise fees
  • Accommodates walk-ins

Cons

  • Repairs might take time
  • Limited availability on weekends

Consistently good

“I have taken my car here 3 times so far. Every time it’s been the same level of fast service and fair prices. They won’t let you down.”

Fair price

“Was a pleasure, they had my tires swapped in a timely fashion, also gave me insight and information on other mechanical matters all at a fair price. Thanks a lot to the good great team at Fowler Auto, I will definitely return in the future.”

Brown Munde Truck and Trailer Repair is here to help you in any time of truck trouble, because yes—they’re open 24/7! In fact, we’ve been lucky to have them on our speed dial when our trailer brakes were sort of delayed.

Of course, we were in a panic mode as it’s something that we can just ignore. We drove slowly to their place and they were able to accommodate us right away.

We just had a little problem with their parking slot. It’s a bit tight, which makes it more challenging for big trucks to navigate.

We thought that they would ask us to just leave the truck behind, but we were surprised when someone started checking it in front of us. After a quick diagnosis, the mechanic explained the process and asked for our approval for a more thorough reading.

They figured out the issue in just a couple of minutes, and since they had the spare parts ready, they were able to replace the leaking brake line right away. Even better, we only had to wait for about an hour before we could safely get back on the road.

While waiting, we chose to go around and see the other vehicles they’ve been working on in the garage. We’ve seen a lot of trailer trucks and fleet rigs, so if you’ve got a problematic one, you can bring it here for a quick assessment.

Pros

  • Quick diagnosis
  • Ideal for trucks and trailers

Cons

  • Limited parking space for bigger trucks
  • No waiting lounge

Quick turnaround

“Fantastic work done by them moreover quick and reliable work. Staff is too humble and kind”

We were out doing our Friday deliveries around mid-afternoon, when we suddenly heard weird noises from our truck’s engine.

We were too afraid that the truck would break down in the middle of nowhere, so we pulled off and started searching for a repair shop nearby. Our driver mentioned Hastings Auto & Truck Service, so we immediately gave it a go.

As soon as we parked outside the repair shop, one of the mechanics came over and asked what our concerns were. We observed him as he listened for a bit, and nodded like he already confirmed in his mind what the issue was.

It’s also great that they conducted an overall checkup, just to see if there were other underlying issues. But don’t worry, they won’t push for non-urgent repairs, and will just focus on the most important ones.

You’ll also love that they will inform you about the turnaround time even before they start the repairs so you can gauge if you’d rather wait or just come back when everything’s done.

We decided to wait and just got snacks from the nearby store. But even before we finished munching, the mechanic’s already handing us the truck keys—a few minutes earlier than what they had promised.

Just take note that they’re not open on weekends!

Pros

  • Affordable rates
  • Provides overall checkup
  • Quick turnaround

Cons

  • Not open on weekends
  • Space is a bit tight for bigger trucks

Another truck repair shop that can offer their services anytime of the day is Cheema Truck & Trailer Repair. The best part is that they can go wherever you are, so if your brakes suddenly feel off in the middle of the night, you know who to call.

That’s what we did when our brakes felt a bit off past midnight. And since we had several deliveries and couldn’t wait until the morning, we knew we had to seek their help right away.

After the initial call, they were able to send someone in just 30 minutes. Their mobile unit was also complete with the right tools and spare parts, so they were confident to get our truck up and running in no time.

They even have a computer to scan the truck thoroughly, which made us feel like we were in a truck repair shop. It also gave us more peace of mind knowing that they can see the total condition of our truck.

We didn’t even feel like they’re working at 3 in the morning as the mechanics were energized. And true enough, our truck’s ready to get back on the road again in just two hours.

Two weeks later, we went to their shop for a quick electrical checkup. Several trucks arrived after us for their last-minute repair needs.

So if you encounter anything urgent or you’re just in a hurry, feel free to drop by anytime.

Pros

  • Open 24/7
  • Offers mobile repair services
  • Great attention to detail even if they’re working past midnight

Cons

  • No waiting lounge
  • Online information is quite limited

Ideal for late night repairs

“I’d give 10 stars if I could. Cheema saved the day for my company. Late night call, damn near impossible repair and he just put his head down and fixed it. Came back the next night and even did a weld repair. Don’t think twice, just call Cheema and hopefully he is available for you.”

Quick turnaround

“I called out for road service to fix trailer axle slide pins stuck and the mechanic also adjusted my suspension on the trailer. Service was fast and he got me on the road very quickly. Very professional and very helpful. I highly recommend this company for truck and trailer service. Thanks again.”

We parked near Westminster Highway for a quick restroom break, when suddenly our truck refused to start again. There were even no warning signs nor dashboard lights, which made us feel even more confused (and worried too!).

We were about to call for a towing service, when a truck passed by us and asked what was wrong. He mentioned that there was a nearby truck repair shop that also offers mobile repair services.

In just fifteen minutes, someone from H&B came to check the truck. Luckily, it was just a minor repair so the tools he brought with him were everything he needed.

Moreover, it only took him thirty minutes to finish the repair. They’re also open 24/7, so if you encounter any truck emergency in the middle of night, you can count on them too.

What we liked most about them is that they never left us for the initial ten minutes of driving. The mechanic drove with us and made sure that our truck had been safely fixed.

He also gave his personal number so we could easily reach out to him should we notice underlying issues throughout the day.

However, their rates were a bit steep compared to the other mobile repair services out there, so be prepared to shell out a bit more with H&B.

Pros

  • Short waiting period
  • Quick turnaround
  • Can fix trucks on the spot
  • Available 24/7
  • Mobile services available

Cons

  • A bit more costly than the others
  • Mobile services are not ideal for major assessments

Good response rate

“Great, local mechanic that lives in the same neighbourhood as me, I’m glad and happy to have found an honest, reliable, mechanic that can help me with any issues needed. Prices are absolutely reasonable. Billa was very good at responding messages in a timely manner and helped us changed our rear router and break pads. We were able to supply with the parts and he charged us for the labour. He was honest and told me he bent the calliper but fixed the issue by replacing it at no cost. I’ll be going back next week to get my other car done!”

Melissa Fong, Google Review

Upfront about all underlying truck issues

“They helped me with pre-sale inspection, and looked at a couple trucks for me. They were very honest and upfront about all problems and gave fantastic advice. I will use them again”
