Ultimate Travel Guide to Ambleside in West Vancouver
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Fun fact: Ambleside Park has been around since way back in 1918. Yep, it’s got some serious history! And by 1964, they’d even filled in much of the marshy area to create the beautiful Ambleside Beach—talk about a transformation!

Fast forward to today, and there’s so much to do at the park. This goes from regular picnics to watersports. So go nuts!

If you want in on the fun, keep reading and enjoy Ambleside Park to the fullest!

What is Ambleside Park in West Vancouver known for?

Ambleside Park in West Vancouver is known for its awesome beach with killer views of Stanley Park. It’s also got a dog park, a water park, sports fields, and picnic areas—like a one-stop-shop for fun in the sun!

Best Time to Go

The best time to go to Ambleside Park is during the summer, when you can soak up beach vibes and enjoy scenic strolls throughout the year.

Things to Know

Operating hours: Ambleside Park is open from 11 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 8 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Parking: Parking’s a bit tight at the park, especially when the sun’s out. You might have to do a bit of hunting for a spot, so keep that backup plan handy.
Washroom Facilities: Washrooms at Ambleside Fieldhouse are open year-round, from 7 am to 10:30 pm. The concession washrooms are the same deal, but they shut down at 10 pm. And if you’re hitting the links at Ambleside Par 3, their washrooms are open during golf hours.
Lifeguards: Lifeguards are on duty Monday through Sunday from 12 pm to 7 pm. Just note that their services depend on the weather.
Dogs: Going for a stroll with your pet? Leashed pups are welcome on the paved footpaths at the park!

How to Get Around

Buses: Hop on bus 250 or 257 downtown and ride it to Marine Drive at the 14th Street stop. From there, it’s just a two-block walk into the park. Easy peasy!
Taxis: Taxis are readily available in West Vancouver. Just wave one down or use a ride-hailing app to zip over to Ambleside Park.
Car: Cruise from downtown Vancouver over the Lions Gate Bridge into West Vancouver. Once you’re off the bridge, hang a left onto Marine Drive West, then a left onto 13th Street straight into the park.

What to Do in Ambleside Park, West Vancouver

Show off Your Moves at the Skate Park

Ambleside Park is a skateboard haven buzzing with energy. For many visitors, this is a good place to skate, whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out.

From tackling the mini-ramp to shredding the street area, we like that there’s no shortage of challenges to keep you on your toes.

You’ll also find a bit of everything here—boards, blades, and baskets galore. So if street-style skating or rollerblading isn’t your thing, you can always lace up your skates and hit the pavement for some roller hockey action.

Challenge Your Friend to a Tennis Match

Challenge Your Friend to a Tennis Match

Ready to serve up some fun? Ambleside Park has cool tennis courts where you can challenge your friend to a match they won’t forget!

With 3 courts up for grabs on a first-come, first-served basis, we believe there’s ample opportunity to show off your skills. But if there’s a lineup forming, be sure to keep your game snappy (around 30 minutes or so), so everyone gets a shot.

And if you’ve got lessons lined up, be a champ and stick to the court reservation times. For us, it’s all about being a good sport, on and off the court!

Take a Refreshing Dip at the Pool

Want to beat the heat on a sunny day? Ambleside Park has some cool, sandy beaches where you can just unwind and take a refreshing dip!

The park’s got a special swim area where lifeguards keep watch during those scorching summer months. This place is pretty much your ultimate chill-out spot!

But don’t forget the golden rule: safety first! Keep a watchful eye on the kiddos, and make sure you’ve got a buddy to swim with.

Enjoy a Round of Golf at a Scenic Course

Ambleside Park is a green oasis, perfect for enjoying friendly rounds of golf. Tee off amid the lush surroundings at the stunning waterfront pitch and putt course!

As you make your way through the 18-hole, par-3 course, don’t miss the jaw-dropping views. And don’t underestimate the challenge, either. Though the course may be small, we think those tee boxes tucked among the trees can keep you on your toes!

Take Your Furbaby for a Fun Walk

Looking for the “pawfect” spot to stretch your legs with your furry friend? Well, West Vancouver’s Ambleside Park is where you and your pup can run free with glee!

Here’s a special treat: go to the east end of the park, closest to the Lions Gate Bridge. Along the seawall, past the pond and the golf course, you’ll find an off-leash area where your doggo can run around and maybe even dip their paws in the beach!

Yet in other areas, we advise keeping your fur baby on a leash and looking out for signs showing this rule.
