I have spent an afternoon with Pasta Boy Peter, and let me tell you, that man knows his pasta. The class was perfect for someone like me who has always wanted to make fresh pasta at home but never really dared to try it.
However, if you’re looking for a class that covers various baking skills, Pasta Boy might not be your best bet. Peter focuses solely on Italian cuisine, specifically pasta and pizza.
Peter keeps the class sizes small, which means you get hands-on experience. He doesn’t just lecture on the finer points of semolina flour – he’s guiding your kneading technique and ensuring you get the hang of rolling out that pasta sheet.

I just finished this course at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts’ (PICA) program, and it’s geared more toward people who already have some baking experience.
The classes focused heavily on these advanced techniques, and while fascinating to watch, I sometimes felt lost. It was more observing demonstrations than actually getting your hands dirty.
Now, the instructors themselves were fantastic – knowledgeable and professional. But they seemed more focused on achieving technical perfection than offering support and guidance for nervous newbies like me.
PICA is a great place for experienced bakers who want to take their skills to the next level and learn show-stopping techniques. But if you’re a newbie and want a more hands-on environment, look for a program tailored for beginners.

The best part is that they take a hands-on approach, so you’re not just listening to lectures; you’re actually in the kitchen mixing, kneading, and creating alongside the instructor.
The instructors are also awesome—super patient and knowledgeable; they manage to make even the most complex techniques seem approachable and fun.
One downside is that they don’t have a dedicated bread-baking course, which might disappoint those only interested in perfecting their bread-making skills.
Also, if you’re already a baking pro, the classes may be too basic for your level. But overall, it’s a great place for beginners to learn the ropes of baking.

“Wow! What an amazing setup for a cooking class! Room layout, equipment, cooking facilities A+!! On top of that, David was a superb teacher! Casual, funny, engaging, and a fabulous cook! I learned several things that I will use immediately at home! We did a fish course, a steak course, and dessert. Each was amazingly easy to create and delicious! We ate at a long table in the adjoining room, met other participants, and enjoyed them, the food, and the drink. On top of all this, they consciously accommodated my gluten-free needs and ensured I was comfortable! We came away so impressed with the entire evening!
