My 13-year-old niece and I recently went to a ballet performance, and she was completely mesmerized. The grace, the music, and the movement all struck a chord with her. By the time the curtain closed, she’d already decided she wanted to try ballet.
This left her mom stressed. While she loved the idea, she had no clue where to start. No one in the family or even friends had ever taken ballet, after all. And with her daughter asking about it daily after school, the pressure was on.
Feeling a bit guilty (since I was the one who took her to the show), I promised to help. With the help of my Best Vancouver team, we searched around the city for studios where beginners can learn more about the dance.
After talking to dancers, reaching out to studios, and digging through testimonials, we finally found the best ballet classes in Vancouver. Check them out here!
How much does a ballet class cost in Vancouver?
A ballet class in Vancouver can cost from $10 to $30 per class. Drop-in classes are priced differently from memberships and class packages. There are also studios offering beginner classes for a one-time payment.
1. Ballet Lounge

Address: 1340 Granville St
Contact Details: +17783797543
Operating Hours:
- Monday: 5:45 PM – 9:00 PM
- Tuesday: 10:45 AM – 9:00 PM
- Wednesday: 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM
- Thursday: 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Ballet Lounge stood out for the way it combines fitness and ballet. It’s not always that you find a ballet class that teaches you proper ballet techniques and how to apply them to high-energy electronic beats. The sessions are pretty much full-body workouts!
We also like that they’re only focused on ballet classes. Nothing more, nothing less. This gives us the confidence that they are able to give focused ballet instruction.
We’re also glad that they have five class levels or structures. From introduction to advanced classes, they have it. Beginners and those who want to go back into ballet don’t have to feel intimidated anymore.
Aside from that, we love their flexibility. They allow private ad group ballet classes. A student said that she took both private and group classes, and both are of high quality and have welcoming instructors.
However, they don’t cater to kids’ ballet as they’re more focused on adult dancing.
They’re a bit salesy, if we’re being honest. Some students report that they continue to receive emails despite having unsubscribed from them.
Welcoming environment
“Joined in May 2020 via zoom links due to Covid and brought back the motivation and fitness needed. Made me feel so welcome and no-one judges you. You can go at your own pace and modify as required. Everyone is so encouraging. Definately give it a try 🙂
5 years on and I am still here: dancing and stretching and feeling great. Suzy and the team are fabulous and a great inspiration to the community. Thanks for being here :)”

Variety of classes available
“Ballet Lounge is where dreams you thought are too late come true! The studio offers a variety of classes from progressive ballet to fitness training and technique workshops, creating a beautiful and yet practical approach to adult dancing. Whether you are looking to go on pointe or just improve your fitness level, Suzy and Natalie will teach you to cultivate and appreciate your body’s hidden potential. Coming to class always feels like an oasis amidst everyone’s busy lives, you might just harvest life long friendships with likeminded people!”

2. The Landing Dance Centre

Address: 270 SW Marine Dr
Contact Details: +16043258653
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Thursday: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Saturday – Sunday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
The Landing Dance Centre is another studio we found to be reliable. They’ve been teaching since 2008 and have built their reputation over the years.
The first check for us is that they teach both kids and adults. They have classes, including beginner and progressive performance programs. Both classes are available for kids aged 6.
Another good thing about this studio is that they also do one-on-one training and technical training for those who already have experience in ballet. Their wide range of training programs makes it easy for students to choose where they want to sign up.
The studio is clean and safe, especially for kids. We also love how the studio values transparency. They don’t allow parents inside, but they have cameras in the lobby where parents can watch their kids.
Dance instructors are also patient and welcoming. Parents say that they’ve enrolled their preschool kids in the studio, and instructors Ms Emma and Ms Trisha made the kids comfortable and happy throughout the program.
One thing to note is that parking can be tricky, especially if there is a class switch. You might need to get a parking pass to secure a decent parking space.
Supportive and inspiring environment
“My daughter danced for over five years at The Landing—recreationally, in Spotlight, and at the company level—and we had a wonderful experience. The instructors at all levels are professional, talented, and highly experienced dancers and choreographers who truly care about their students. They not only teach excellent dance technique, but they also foster a supportive and inspiring environment. We’re so grateful for the skills, confidence, and passion for dance she gained there.

Enjoyable classes
“My daughter is currently enrolled in the spring tap and ballet class at the Landing Dance Center. She truly enjoys the classes and feels inspired by the teachers and staff. We’re looking forward to enrolling her in the September program and hope she can continue developing her dance skills in a supportive team environment.’

3. iDance Mt Pleasant

Address: 257 E 7th Ave
Contact Details: +16045584622
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Thursday: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM, 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Friday: 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM – 6:30 PM
- Sunday: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
iDance Mt Pleasant caught our attention because of their new dancer deals. They offer their first class at $10 and a 30-day unlimited membership for $85. Pretty good deal, we can say.
However, expect that they have a very limited drop-in schedule for their ballet classes. It’s because they have a wide range of programs, like modern, jazz, and K-pop dances.
Despite that, we still love the concept of their open-level classes. These allow students of different skill levels to gather and train together in a supportive environment. This is beneficial for newcomers to learn with more experienced dancers.
Also, we’re impressed with their range of instructors. They have enough dance instructors dedicated to each dance style. That gives us reassurance that they also have a dedicated ballet dance teacher.
Pricing-wise? They have reasonable pricing. They offer class cards starting at $15.75 per class, as well as early access class cards starting at $15 per class. They also have memberships, which we think give great value for those who are committed to ballet.
Unfortunately, iDance doesn’t cater to kids. They have lots of programs and classes, but all are intended for adults.
Great studio
“What a great studio, with a large variety of dance and fitness classes to suit all levels. The instructors are such skillful teachers and they keep the classes fun and full of energy! There is a BALLET CHOREOGRAPHY class on Monday that is open to all levels – you can’t find a regular drop-in class like this elsewhere. It is so fun to actually learn a ballet dance, even as a beginner dancer! They usually teach the same choreography for two weeks, so you have a chance to improve on it, and, then, you can move on to learn other choreography!”
– Ms. Al La, Google Review
Comfortable classes
“I was looking for an adult ballet and contemporary dance class and this place was the perfect place for me.
I feel comfortable whenever I join the class, all the Instructors are so kind and friendly!
It is a perfect place to learn different types of dances regardless of your age.”

4. Harbour Dance Centre

Address: 927 Granville St suite 301
Contact Details:
Operating Hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 9:30 AM – 9:30 PM
- Wednesday: 9:30 AM – 9:00 PM
- Friday: 9:30 AM – 8:00 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Sunday: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Harbour Dance Centre is a studio offering a wide variety of workshops spanning from ballet to advanced choreography.
We’re impressed with their over 100 drop-in classes a week, which tells us about their strong community presence and high demand.
For their ballet classes, they offer workshops for students ages 16 and up only. They have progressive, morning, and summer classes. However, if you’re not sure yet, they also offer a trial week as a drop-in class.
Their drop-in costs $20 per class. For us, this is reasonable. However, what we really like is that they offer introductory classes for three sessions, priced at $44. It’s a good deal, especially for those who are just starting out.
They also have friendly and welcoming instructors. Students say that teachers take their time to introduce themselves and ask you about your experience and modifications at the first meeting.
Apart from that, they have a well-maintained studio, clean washrooms, and well-equipped rooms.
However, we think that they need to focus on assessing the level of each student before signing them up for a class. Some students say that their level designation is a bit inaccurate.
Great community
“Moving to a new city alone can be tough, but Harbour Dance gave me a community right away. I’ve found friends, purpose, and a place where I can take care of my mental health while doing something I truly love. The classes are challenging but so much fun, and the energy here is unmatched. Dance has become a big part of how I stay grounded, and I’m so grateful to Harbour for creating a space where everyone feels welcome.”
– Mr. Jesus Lozano-Villarreal, Google Review
Lots of levels available
“Harbour Dance Centre is the BEST! I’ve been taking classes here for 20 years. I highly recommend going to try out a class. They offer lots of levels from absolute beginner to advanced professional. Each instructor offers something unique, so be sure to test them out and check out the many different styles offered. Love the community and vibe, so glad Drop-in classes are available in our city!”

5. The Happening Dance Co.

Address: 812 E Cordova St
Contact Details: +16046903577
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 3:30 PM – 9:30 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Sunday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
The Happening Dance Co. stood out to us because of their inclusive community and studio. From preschool to adults, they have programs for all ages.
They offer different dance classes like breaking, acro, and of course, ballet. They have semester classes with different levels. From creative play to creative dance, they have it.
Another great deal of this studio is that they offer a free trial. Not all studios are as generous as they are. Anyone can take this opportunity before signing up for their classes.
It’s also worth mentioning that we like their full-season classes, where students can enjoy progressive learning. It’s just that we found their fees expensive, priced at $945, which can be split into 3 instalments.
Still, there are also some additional fees, like registration, costume, and video fees, which add up to the overall cost.
Despite that, we still think this studio is worth a try. Teachers are positive, and there’s a welcoming environment that can help students build their confidence. Many parents and students commend the owner, Ms Kim, for being supportive and inspirational.
Challenging environment
“The Happening is a dance school with values that highly match our own families, and incredible instructors that help the kids grow and thrive in a supportive yet challenging environment. I highly recommend it!”
– Ms. Zahra Esmail, Google Review
Supportive community
“The Happening is totally where its happening for kids dance in Vancouver. The studio and staff are open, inclusive, hard working, talented and friendly. Did I also say they are organized, have wonderful communications to the parents and create the most supportive environment for kids and families? Kimberly and the crew care deeply not just about teaching dance but also about cultivating a healthy dance culture. We are so glad we found The Happening.”
