We love watching stand-up comedy on streaming platforms, until the day we got curious about what it’s like to be in the actual venue, hearing the non-stop laughter from the crowd.
Good thing, Vancouver is home to the best comedy clubs, which allowed us to hear even the underrated and newbies in the industry. It’s more fun being part of the live audience, as you get to participate too.
If you’re looking for a night out that goes beyond dancing and drinks, we highly recommend these comedy clubs in the city.

Inviting but intimate atmosphere
“I had an absolutely fantastic night at the Underground Comedy Club in Gastown! From the moment I walked in, the cozy, speakeasy-style basement venue felt inviting and intimate, perfect for a comedy night to remember. The lineup was top-notch. Every comedian brought their “A‑game,” and the host kept the energy high, delivering seamless transitions between sets. I laughed until my cheeks hurt! Drinks and snacks were on point, and the bartender was attentive even checking mid‑show to make sure we had everything we needed. It’s small in size, but that just made it feel like a secret spot with great vibes. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a night of quality comedy and warm hospitality. I’ll definitely be going back!”
“My wife and I have been here many times and we always have a great time. The vibe is cozy, the comedians are hilarious, and the staff are super friendly. We’ve even brought family and friends along, and everyone always leaves laughing. One of our favorite spots in Vancouver for a fun night out!”
Comedy After Dark has that old-school cozy underground vibe for stand-up comedy. They mostly host local comedy acts, which is a great way to hear fresh comedic takes.
The venue is quite small, but we love how close we can get to the performers. However, we still suggest that you arrive at least an hour before the show starts to get the best seats in the house.
And here’s an additional tip: if you want a good view of the stage, simply avoid the tables behind the stairs. The angle isn’t great there, so you’d probably end up twisting or stretching out your neck just to see the comedian’s face.
On the other hand, there’s a special night where Comedy After Dark highlights their female comedians. It usually happens every Tuesday, where you get tacos and beers for just $5.
We also love that they serve large portions here, and they always serve them fresh and hot. However, there are times when the service is a bit slow, especially when the comedy club is at full capacity.
We just noticed that some of their menu printouts have seen better days. Most of them were even wet and smudged, so it was really hard to read.
Pros
Intimate venue
Features local comedy artists
Large food portions
Cons
Service is quite slow
Great bar food
“Great ambience, came early to try the food before the show. Beef quesadilla (added their guacamole super yummy!) lemon pepper dry rub wings, Cajun zucchini fries, and the smokehouse burger! Everything was flavourful and crisp to perfection! Very reasonable pricing.”
“Great service, very welcoming! Love the atmosphere and cocktails were tasty. Came for a date night, would absolutely recommend for an evening out! Comedy after dark well worth it!”
If you’re looking for a good laugh that isn’t big on profanity, then The Improv Centre is the comedy club for you. Here, the performers are just old-fashioned funny without the need to rely on swear words.
The content is so wholesome that you can even bring your teenage kids with you. Some of the improv artists incorporate games within their sets, encouraging guests to participate.
We also noticed that they have a great lights and sounds team. They really participated in the action, which makes the whole experience more engaging and interactive.
This club has a bar, so you can enjoy having your drinks during the show. We suggest getting front-row seats so you can rest your drinks on a bench. However, service is occasionally quite slow.
Nonetheless, it’s also great that The Improv Centre supports different community groups and charitable organizations. It’s actually a great feeling to know you’re doing your fair share in supporting a good cause.
Meanwhile, if you want to explore being on stage, this comedy club offers improv classes and workshops for beginners and advanced levels.
Pros
Plenty of parking slots
Clean venue
Well-coordinated lights and sound teams
Offers workshops for teens and adults
Supports community groups
Cons
Service is occasionally quite slow
Impressive sound booth
“We caught a Theatresports UNHINGED! performance and it was so much fun. Very funny cast of performers, the sound booth is excellent with relevant audio drops and lighting shifts throughout the show. The audience was also very actively involved in suggested topics for the performers to seize upon in their act. Appreciated it and can’t wait to do it again!”
“What a fun night! So much laughter! The performers, as always were fabulous! And once again, for me, it’s so great that they do not use swear words! I know it seems old fashioned (because it is) but you can be funny without using profanity! I’m looking forward to seeing another performance! Oh, and lastly, such a reasonable price for a live performance!”
If you’ve walked past Little Mountain Gallery, you wouldn’t even think it’s a comedy club. It actually looks like a cozy hangout spot in the neighborhood.
During our first visit, we were able to hear new comedy material. And since this club supports local artists, you can expect to see fresh faces who are throwing their punchlines for the first time.
If you’re a fan of well-known stand-up comedian Graham Clark, you can usually catch him on Thursdays here at Little Mountain Gallery.
Don’t expect a full production when visiting Little Mountain Gallery. While there’s support from the sound crew, they still keep the setup simple and raw, so everyone can focus on the comedy itself.
But our favorite was the presence of TV screens when going to the bar. We didn’t miss the punchlines while getting our refills, which is really impressive!
We also noticed that the crowd here is really supportive. Almost everyone is trying to cheer the new artists on, which we find thoughtful.
Additionally, the venue is quite small, so it’s really easy to absorb the supportive vibe in the room. However, this also means that getting a seat can be challenging.
Pros
Simple and raw approach
Has a TV screen leading to the bar
Supportive community
Cons
Limited seating
Great support for local artists
“Hosting a variety of shows, Little Mountain Gallery has wonderful programming and supports local artists. Do check out their shows when you get a chance!”
“Just walked by randomly. I stopped and what a good surprise. Super friendly and welcoming staff, the Thursday free show host and comedians were just amazing. 75 minutes of belly laugh! Thanks”
The Comedy Department is one of the go-to improv comedy clubs in Vancouver.
Here, you won’t just get your typical stand-up setup with a stage and a mic on a stand. This place hosts improv artists who use activities and games to level up the crowd interaction.
So yes, be ready to charge your social batteries if you wish to visit this improv playground.
We were quite impressed by how quickly these artists are coming up with funny banter and lines. They really have an infectious energy, pulling everyone in.
There was even one skit where the artist focused on words given by people from the crowd. It really tested their wit and sharpness, so we were really left impressed.
Our favorite part about The Comedy Department is their musical comedy shows. The performers would even play instruments such as guitars and drums, and everyone in the crowd gets to sing along with them.
And oh, the performers will also invite you to come up on stage to take pictures with them. Others love it, while others feel the pressure to participate.
Pros
Takes time to connect with the audience after the show
Has musical comedy shows
Enough table space for food and drinks
Cons
Ideal for fans of improv-heavy comedy shows
Reports of guests being pressured to participate
Great audience participation
“Best comedy show I’ve been to , hilarious and very talented comedians with their improv. They kept everyone laughing the whole night and so much fun with audience participation. Will definitely see them again and if you haven’t seen them highly recommend for a great night out.”
“My favorite place to spend a Saturday evening! My friends and I (The Frequent Flyers, hi Denise!!) have been coming to the show for quite a while, and we absolutely love it every time. The talent and energy in the room are unmatched—there’s always so much laughter and entertainment. The comedy team never disappoints, delivering a consistently fun and unforgettable night. Highly recommend!”
