Since we moved to our place more than two decades ago, we had minor and major renovations in our bedrooms, kitchen, and bath. We never gave our front door a new life until an extreme wind blew it open one rainy evening.
That’s when we realized that our door needs to be replaced not just because it’s an old part of the house, but it also leaves us unsafe inside! That explains why winters have become too cold for us in the past years.
Good thing Vancouver has the best exterior door contractors that helped us choose the right materials, and even worked within our budget. So if you’re also thinking of a home upgrade, we’ve made a list of the door pros in the city, so you won’t have to!
How much does an exterior door contractor cost in Vancouver?
In Vancouver, the average cost for an exterior door installation can start at $500. This cost already covers the cost of the door, including labor fees.
How we chose:
- Portfolio: We checked the quality of their exterior door installations, evaluating the contractor’s experience and craftsmanship.
- Material selection: We included contractors that utilize good materials such as wood, steel, and fiberglass. We also checked the type of finish, including the security features that may come with the exterior door installation.
- Warranty: We checked if the contractors offer labor and manufacturer’s warranty, ensuring their commitment to great quality of product and service.
- Post-installation service: We included contractors that can double check their work, ensuring everything is working as expected.

One weekend, when we were having our morning coffee on the front porch, we suddenly noticed that our front door looked outdated more than ever.
We were having minor renovations from time to time but won’t include the door, as it’s still, well, functional! The moment we saw our neighbor’s front door, we knew then that we had to get their contractor too.
And since our neighbor kept raving about how great Novin Doors were, we immediately dropped by their showroom within the week. Yes, we didn’t call them ahead to set an appointment, which makes them a right fit if you’re spontaneous.
Upon entering, they immediately asked us what we needed. And when they felt that we were just there to check the designs and canvass prices, they gave us the space to do so.
Since we didn’t know much about doors, we asked one of their staff to describe each type of door that will suit our front porch. We recommend taking photos of your door, including all angles and close up shots of its hardware.
It would also be great if you can take a photo of the entire facade so they can recommend the door type and design that will go well with the overall look.
We were initially planning to go for a fronted glass door. But when they saw that our house is facing direct sunlight, they advised us to choose another type instead, which quite impressed us.
We also experienced a smooth installation. The team made sure to show up on time, and made sure everything was properly aligned before they left our place.
Adjusts to client’s schedule
“Novin Doors did an excellent job on a custom door assignment. They were flexible, worked with our schedule, and the lead time was quicker than expected. They are a full service door company and I fully recommend them to anyone looking for custom doors!”

Can accommodate same-day booking appointments
“I had an emergency situation with my front door that was complicated snd needed immediate attention. Novin sent Mike out that same day . He assessed the situation , promptly gave me a quote , took the door to the shop, changed the entire locking system to a life time warranty solid lock that is built to last . Within a few days my door was completely redone and is perfect now. Sonia and carolina at the office are quick to respond to questions and offer excellent customer service . During all reconstructing of the door absolutely no mess was left behind and most importantly they have given me a solid safe gorgeous front door. Mike was just wonderful to deal with and guaranteed me 100 percent satisfaction with the repairs. Excellent Service and would highly recommend this company . Both gentlemen that came to install the new door were very helpful and did a-great job. This was a five star experience all around. Safety and security is everything and this company is a one stop shop for excellent doors, excellent customer service , excellent locks.”

We weren’t expecting to replace our side door this year, but after multiple attempts of opening it with a basket of laundry in hand, the door just won’t budge.
Our friend recommended Westeck Windows and Doors since they wanted a contractor that utilizes locally manufactured doors. So if you’re not a fan of manufacturing and logistics delays, then they’re the right one for you too.
However, the waiting time here is a little longer than expected. We had to wait for two weeks before we got our installation schedule, so this could still highly affect your project timeline.
Moreover, our friends didn’t experience any issue since 2014, and their exterior door still looked like they’d just been installed last month, so we knew we were in great hands.
We also compared prices, and theirs was just right. Even better, it was even lower than our allotted budget, which means extra money to buy door mats and other accessories!
Since we’re working for a side door, the contractor gave us a few wood options. Don’t worry, they’ve been weather-treated too!
We’re well aware that not all wood doors will work in our wet climate, but they promised to seal it properly so we won’t have problems with it. Two years later, the wooden side door still looks and functions great.
And in case your door needs to be repaired, Westeck seems to have one of the best post-installation services. They will immediately send out a technician to work on your exterior door–free of charge.
Can handle repairs
“Installed western windows on a new build 5 years ago. Been very pleased since. Had 2 screens destroyed by cats (I hate cats), brought them to Westeck for repair. In short order the repairs were done and to my surprise, there was no charge. I wish to give a big shout out to Dennis and everyone else at Westeck. Thank you Brian”

Impressive warranty service
“Amazing warranty service! We ordered all of our exterior doors & locks from Westeck because we found their products were superior compared to others for security. A few years later, one of our locks was stuck due to many years of wear and tear. We called Westeck to come repair it because it is not a standard locking mechanism and required some knowledge on how to repair it. The service technicians were very professional and courteous. After a couple of hours to replace the locking mechanism, I was expecting a big bill. The office called the next day to see how the service call went and advised the repair was completing under warranty. I was pleasantly surprised because some companies would make you pay for either parts or labour after a few years. Westeck said they completely back up their products – which is 100% completely true. After this experience, I truly believe you get what you pay for. Thank you Westeck!”

For those of you who are planning to stay in their old house for a long haul, then make sure to replace the doors at home. After all, if it’s for your safety too!
We decided to have our 50-year old home renovated, and the moment we saw how the walls and doors looked warped, we knew we had to reach out to one of the best contractors in town.
And since Long Life Windows & Doors has been known to work well in older homes, we didn’t think twice and just called them right away. They asked us to send a photo of the facade, including closeup shots of the door.
While they’ve got modern door designs in their showroom, you’ll love that they will guide you towards the classic designs. This also tells us that they took the time to review our layout, allowing them to make sound recommendations.
If your home has a mid-century vibe, similar to us, you can ask for their fiberglass door designs. We recommend choosing the one with a classic trim, as it will match well with your home’s overall look.
We also enjoyed looking at multiple samples in their showroom. So if you can’t rely on photos, you can always request for actual samples from their staff.
Utilizes high quality materials
“Fantastic experience from start to finish. The team was punctual, professional, and did a flawless job installing our new windows. High-quality materials and clean workmanship. Highly recommend for anyone needing window replacement or upgrades!”

Designs work well even in old houses
“Long Life replaced several windows and a sliding glass door in our 1950’s house. They did a nice clean job, on time, fair price exactly as quoted, and even took care of some window frame replacement that we requested. We are very happy with their work!”

Last year, our parents decided to turn their basement into a rental suite. But since their back door looked a bit sketchy, they decided to replace it first just so they could get a higher chance of renting it out as soon as possible.
Since the house was originally built back in the ‘70s, the door looked slightly warped, as expected. Of course, we had to tag along when they were looking for an exterior door replacement, and ended up seeing North Shore Door along the way.
While their showroom seems a bit small, they still had a good variety of exterior doors. Even better, there weren’t too many, so our parents weren’t overwhelmed in selecting the best back door design for their old home.
But if you’re trying to get creative, their limited design options might not seem attractive to you, especially if you’re looking for a customized or stylish design for more visible parts of your home such as the main entrance.
Meanwhile, if you’re working on a budget, feel free to let them know as they will try to limit their suggestions for you. But don’t worry, their cheaper alternatives are still sturdy enough.
You’ll even love that their doors have built-in insulation, which don’t come in a hefty price tag!
The installation was quite straightforward too. We also love that they arrived on time, ensuring minimal disruptions to the elderly.
Installs energy-efficient doors
“I was impressed by the wide selection of high-quality doors and the knowledgeable staff who guided me through the options. The installation process was seamless and professional. The team arrived on time, worked efficiently, and left my home spotless. The new door not only looks fantastic but also significantly improves the energy efficiency of my home. I highly recommend North Shore Door for anyone in need of new doors or windows. Their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is truly outstanding.”

Great post-installation service
“Highest recommendation. Great quality of product and service – in the showroom and on site. Mark made an extra trip to Lions Bay to do a 10 minute touch up. Very much appreciated!”

We were looking for a simple and straightforward upgrade for the side entrance of our home–the one that leads us into the dirty kitchen.
We didn’t need anything too glamorous, but since it’s the most used door at home, we just had to replace it so we can stop dealing with the endless squeaking.
Since we recently had a major renovation in our main kitchen, we had to look for the most affordable option. We saw great reviews about Doors Galore online, so we checked it one Friday afternoon.
Sadly, they’re not open on weekends. So you really need to make time on weekdays if you need to see samples in the showroom.
During our visit, we noticed that they have several samples. Make sure to check and touch those slabs so you can compare the different types of door finish.
If you’re not too familiar with the types of finishes, the staff will gladly walk you through them. And here’s a pro tip: you may want to check their clearance section first before going through the regular aisles.
And if you’re down for some DIY projects at home, you’ll love that Doors Galore can even give you tips on how to paint and finish the door yourself.
And here’s our most favorite part: we got the door on the same day! So if you’re tired of waiting for weeks just to get a new exterior door, then you know where to go instead.
On-time installation
“Doors Galore recently installed a new front door for me, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the initial selection to the final installation, their team was both friendly and professional. The door arrived right on schedule, was installed with expert precision, and they even provided small bottles of touch-up paint for future use—a thoughtful touch. I highly recommend their services.”
