Best Time to Go

The best time to go to Second Beach is during the summer season, from June, July and August. This is the most popular time to visit Vancouver because of the warm and pleasant weather. 

The temperatures are quite warm, ranging from 19°C to 22°C, making it perfect for swimming and sunbathing on the beach.

Second Beach in Vancouver is a popular shoreline destination offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and recreational amenities. 

The beach is prized for its scenic beauty and accessibility that provides a relaxing spot for picnics, swimming, and enjoying the coastal atmosphere, fostering community enjoyment and connection with nature.

Right by Second Beach, is the Second Beach Pool. It’s right by trails and trees in Stanley Park. The pool has a sloped entry, and different lanes for those serious about their laps.

The pool’s about 80 meters long, with a 50-meter stretch for those who like to swim laps. Second Beach Pool opens from May to September, and they’ve always got lifeguards on duty. 

It’ll run you about $7.00 for adults, or if you’re rolling with the fam, it’s $3.50 per person.

How to Get to Second Beach

By car: Head to Stanley Park from Beach Avenue entrance and continue driving for about 1 kilometer to reach the beach.

By public transit: hop off at the corner of Denman St. and Davie St., right at English Bay. From there, just head west along the Stanley Park Seawall, walk for about a kilometer, and you’ll be right there.

By bike: If you’re coming from English Bay, just hop on the bike path that runs alongside the Stanley Park Seawall for about a kilometer.

We can’t help but suggest trying out the fish tacos—they’re a real winner, especially if you’re eyeing the fish & chips. And hey, don’t forget to wash it all down with some beer.

Their prosciutto & fresh burrata—it’s a must-have. The way they do it is just perfect. The bread? Not too toasted, just right. And that burrata? Absolutely fantastic.

Second Beach is a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing, with calm waters perfect for a refreshing dip. The beach has also passed the water quality tests at least 95% of the time, according to Swim Guide, so you can feel confident about taking a swim.

You’ll find some logs to perch on, catch a view of the mountains, grab a seat on a bench, stroll along the waterfront paths, and maybe even sink your toes in the sand. It’s a chill spot, definitely worth checking out.

Walk along the Second Beach and Lost Lagoon Loop

The loop trail spans about 4.7 kilometers and winds through the scenic southwest area of Stanley Park. 

Along the way, you’ll pass through a variety of ecosystems, transitioning from inland paths to coastal trails. It’s a great way to experience the park’s diverse natural beauty.

If you’re planning a bigger gathering, check out the Second Beach Picnic Area—it’s got a reservable space complete with a shelter, washrooms, and cooking facilities.

This spot can host up to 150 folks comfortably. And as for amenities, you’ve got everything you need.

Picnic spots have a counter with three cold water sinks, power outlets, a baseball diamond for some fun games, a pit for safely disposing of hot coals, and of course, washrooms for convenience.

Second Beach has a 243-meter white paved trail that can be used in both directions. It’s a multi-use trail where you can run, walk, and bike while enjoying stunning views of the ocean and surrounding forest. 

In case you need to rent a bike, there are several rental shops nearby that offer a variety of options for exploring the trail:

  • Jo-E Bike: rents out bikes, electric bikes, and scooters. Rentals come with helmets and locks for no additional charge.
  • Freedom Bike Rentals: has bike rentals for all ages, from kids, adults, tandem bikes, and additions such as a child seat and trail-a-bike combo.
  • Yes Cycle: prorated bike rental rates for every 15 min after the first hour. Rents out city bikes, e-bikes, and kids bikes,
  • Bee’s Knees: full range of e-bike rentals and bicycle repair services. Also provides bike tours for Stanley Park, Seawall, Coal Harbour, Kitsilano, and downtown Vancouver.
  • Mobi by Shaw Go: community public bike share program that allows individuals to rent bicycles for short durations from stations throughout the city.
