Here’s a 3 Day Itinerary from a Local Who’s Lived in Vancouver Forever

3-days-itinerary-vancouver
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Vancouver is the kind of city that steals your heart in just a few days. Trust me, after three packed days of exploring, eating, and getting lost (in a good way), I’m here to help you make the most of it.

From jaw-dropping mountain views to food that’ll make you want to move here, this itinerary has it all.

So, grab your walking shoes, and let’s dive into three days of adventure in one of the coolest cities on the planet!

Best Time to Go

The best time to go to Vancouver is from April to September. This is the spring and summer season of the city, when there’s a unique mix of outdoor and indoor activities available for visitors.

However, the fall season (October to December) is a beautiful time to visit if you want to witness the city streets become festive with holiday lights, events, and plenty of shopping.

To score great deals on flight tickets and hotels, winter (January to March) is the best choice. During this time, the city offers skiing and snowboarding just 20 minutes from downtown.

How to Get Around Vancouver

Skytrain: this rapid transit system has three lines (Canada, Expo, and Millenium) that takes you all around Metro Vancouver.

The Expo Line goes to Burnaby, New Westminster, and Surrey; the Millennium Line serves Burnaby, Port Moody, and Coquitlam; and the Canada Line connects Richmond and the airport.

Buses: Vancouver’s bus system, run by TransLink, covers various city areas all day. The RapidBus routes and the 99 B-Line offer quicker service with fewer stops.

SeaBus: ferry that travels across the Burrard Inlet, linking Waterfront Station in Downtown Vancouver with Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver.

Mobi: public bike share system provides an easy and cost-effective way to travel around Vancouver.

Day 1: Tourist Spots

Have Breakfast at Breka Bakery & Cafe

Suggested Time to Visit: 8:00am

Average Duration: 1 hour

Address: 821 Denman St

Phone: +1 604-423-3288

Website

Breka Bakery and Café on Denman is your go-to spot any time, day or night, for fresh bread, coffee, and tasty bites.

I’d personally suggest the Spinach & Artichoke Pocket—another customer in line swore by it—or the Apricot Chicken Salad Sandwich, which comes with a pickle that’s surprisingly addictive.

And if you’re in need of a quick caffeine fix, try the Vanilla Bean Frappé. It’s deliciously sweet and guaranteed to give you that extra boost for the day ahead.

Explore Stanley Park

Suggested Time to Visit: 09:00 am

Average Duration: 2 to 3 hours

Address: Vancouver, BC V6G 1Z4*

Phone: +1 604-681-6728

Website

Once you’re done at Breka Bekery & Cafe, head northeast on Denman Street toward Robson Street, then cross the pedestrian lane and take a left. Keep walking straight, and before you know it, you’ll find yourself at the entrance of the iconic Stanley Park!

Stanley Park is the park to visit in Vancouver, and it’s got everything: beautiful beaches, lush greenery, fascinating landmarks, and breathtaking scenery at every turn.

This park is impeccably kept, with clearly marked trails perfect for walking, biking, or even rollerblading. The famous seawall—a stunning 10-kilometer loop, treats you to panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Burrard Inlet, and the majestic North Shore Mountains.

Also, don’t miss the iconic totem poles at Brockton Point, a striking display of Indigenous artistry and culture that adds a rich layer of history to your Stanley Park adventure.

We recommend that you rent a bike and cruise along the seawall, soaking in the Pacific breeze as you go. Stanley Park is an absolute must-see on any Vancouver itinerary!

Get Lunch at Stanley Park Brewing Restaurant & Brewpub

Suggested Time to Visit: 12:00 pm

Average Duration: 1 hour

Address: Vancouver, BC V6G 1Z4

Phone: +1 604-681-6728

Website

Stanley Park Brewing Restaurant & Brewpub is located at the Beach Avenue entrance of Stanley Park. Once you see the pitch and putt, it’s just right across!

It’s a cozy little restaurant with a spacious outdoor patio complete with heaters, perfect for soaking up the park vibes. The food is consistently delicious, and their rotating menu keeps things fresh with new options regularly.

Personally, their chicken breast sandwiches are always a hit—juicy and full of flavor. The Parkhouse sandwich, packed with chicken and served with crispy fries, is another must-try. Plus, for being in the heart of the park, their beers are a steal at $8.50!

Stroll through the Exhibits at the Vancouver Aquarium

Suggested Time to Visit: 01:00 pm

Average Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Address: 845 Avison Way

Phone: +1 778-655-9554

Website

From Stanley Park, we recommend that you hail a 7-minute taxi to take you from here to the Vancouver Aquarium. Alternatively,  you can walk or take a Mobi bike ride.

While this aquarium might not have the colossal tanks you see at its bigger counterparts, this spot is all about celebrating Western Canadian marine life with some seriously cool exhibits.

At the BC Wild Coast Exhibit, you can check out their rescue center with adorable harbor seals, sea lions, and otters. Then explore two floors dedicated to the vibrant marine life of the Strait of Georgia.

There’s also Steller’s Bay with its playful sea lions, The Tropics’ array of colorful fish, and the mesmerizing jellyfish exhibit.

Whether you’re looking for a sunny afternoon diversion or a cozy rain-day retreat, the Vancouver Aquarium is the perfect spot to get up close with nature. Expect to spend at least two hours here to fully explore all the exhibits.

Wander through the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden

Suggested Time to Visit: 02:30 pm

Average Duration: 1 hour

Address: 578 Carrall Street

Phone: +1 604-662-3207

Website

From the Vancouver Aquarium, head to the EB W Georgia St @ Denman St bus stop and ride the 019 bus to E Pender. From there, the next attraction for the day is about a minute walk away.

The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is a hidden gem right in the middle of the city. It’s amazing how this peaceful oasis is nestled among all the urban chaos.

Once you step inside, you’ll find beautifully designed pathways, stunning views through traditional doorways, and lush greenery that makes it feel like a different world. The unique rock formations, the lily-covered pond, and the charming pagoda all add to the serene atmosphere.

There’s even a room by the gift shop where you can try your hand at calligraphy and enjoy a free cup of jasmine tea. And speaking of the gift shop—prepare to spend a little extra time browsing through their cute trinkets and souvenirs.

If you can visit during one of their evening festivals, the garden becomes even more enchanting as the sun sets. An hour is enough to explore the gardens as it’s not as big as Stanley Park.

Learn and Have Fun at Science World

Suggested Time to Visit: 05:00 pm

Average Duration: 2 hours

Address: 1455 Quebec Street

Phone: +1 604-443-7440

Make sure to take your time exploring the walls and tables here. They’re filled with fascinating displays that will have you pondering and learning. Don’t miss out on the shows—they’re interactive and packed with fun, making it a full day of excitement and discovery.

There’s also the OMNIMAX theater, where films are like a sensory rollercoaster. With stunning visuals and immersive effects, it’s an unforgettable way to dive into the wonders of the world and the universe.

From Science World, a fun way to get to your final stop of the day is to hop on the Aquabus! The ride takes about 22 minutes, and you’ll enjoy the scenic journey through six stops before arriving at Granville Island.

Now, Granville Island Public Market is a feast for the senses—beautiful, clean, and brimming with delicious options. It’s the perfect spot to eat, shop, sip, and explore. You can even rent a boat or take a little cruise along the creek if you’re feeling adventurous.

The food scene here is legendary. From fresh produce and artisanal baked goods to mouthwatering pies, donuts, and seafood, you’ll find it all. There’s also a variety of non-food stalls selling everything from jewelry to ceramics.

You can also consider visiting the other attractions on the island. This includes Net Loft, Artisan District, and Kids Market.

Stock and Supply serves an absolutely delicious breakfast, though it can be a bit on the pricier side. Tucked inside the lounge of the Delta Hotel, just up the stairs as you walk in, it’s worth the visit.

For me, a truly amazing dish brings back memories of places tied to its flavors. Their butter chicken eggs Benny (yes, for breakfast!) transported me straight back to both India and London. Total Ratatouille moment!

Once you’re done eating breakfast, walk northeast toward Seymour Street and turn right for the first iconic attraction for the day.

Once you’ve got your ticket, it’s a swift elevator ride to the top. For those who love a bit of extra info, there’s a self-guided audio tour that adds a layer of intrigue to your visit.

After soaking in the views, head northeast on Seymour Street, then take a left onto Cordova Street. From there, make a right onto Howe Street and finally, a left, which will lead you straight to your next stop: the iconic Canada Place.

Bacaro is a fantastic Italian spot with a menu that’s bound to take you straight to Italy. From antipasti to bread, pasta, and rich pomodoro sauce, they offer an impressive array of traditional dishes. In fact, it’s some of the finest Venetian Bacaro cuisine I’ve ever tasted.

Don’t miss out on the off-menu specials, like the charcoal-grilled squid with farro—it’s a standout. The octopus is incredibly tender and perfectly cooked, just like the seafood linguine. Both are absolute must-tries!

Your next stop is just a short 7-minute walk away. Head northeast on W Cordova Street toward W Waterfront Road, then take a left. You’ll be there in no time!

JOSS is the perfect place for a laid-back evening. The outdoor seating is cozy and intimate, with stunning views that add to the relaxed vibe. If you’re in the mood for a slower-paced experience with great ambience, good music, delicious food, and quality beverages, this is your spot.

Their Hearts of Romaine Salad and wood-fired pizzas are truly exceptional. The pizza dough is light and airy, and I’d love to see their appetizer bread available for purchase by the loaf—it’s that good!

Gastown is more than just its charming cobblestone streets and historic architecture. Those are just the backdrop for a lively neighborhood full of unique boutiques, mouthwatering restaurants, and local art galleries.

One of the must-see spots here is the iconic Gastown Steam Clock, located at the corner of Cambie and Water Street. This steam-powered clock is not only a popular attraction, but it’s also a mechanical marvel.

If you’re at Waterfront Station, you’re in the hub of Vancouver’s transit network. It connects you to the Seabus, SkyTrain, WestCoast Express, and TransLink buses, plus there are plenty of places to grab a bite or go shopping in this bustling area.

The Coastal Peoples Fine Arts Gallery is also a must-visit. This gallery showcases a collection of artwork by First Nations artists.

Website

Next, make your way to one of Vancouver’s historic neighborhoods. Walk south on Abbott toward W Hastings, then turn left onto W Pender Street. From there, take a right onto Taylor Street, and you’ll be welcomed by the iconic Chinatown arch.

If you’re interested in Chinese culture or want to learn more about the history of Vancouver’s Chinese Canadian community, Chinatown is a must-visit. It’s also one of the most fascinating urban spaces in all of Canada.

Here, you’ll find vibrant Chinese restaurants, unique shops, and a bustling marketplace that spills out onto the streets. The colorful stalls and lively atmosphere create a beautiful backdrop for both merchants and shoppers.

A notable landmark in Chinatown is the Sam Kee Building. While you can only admire its exterior, it’s still worth a stop. This building has a story to tell—a piece of social history that feels just as relevant today as ever.

Make sure to visit the Chinatown Storytelling Centre and the Chinese Canadian Museum as well. Both attractions offer a deeper dive into the rich cultural heritage of Vancouver’s Chinese community.
