Apak Systems has provided bookbinding services, supplies, and equipment in Vancouver for over 30 years.

We were immediately impressed that they have a wide variety of bookbinding services, which we think is a big plus as customers have different requirements.

We particularly appreciated that Apak Systems offers clients a selection of binding sizes and colors.

Also, they use two automatic wire-o-machines and punches, which we think makes them more efficient and able to turn jobs around faster.

We also think this enables them to handle jobs of any size. In fact, they can accommodate book binding orders for over 50,000 books, which we found very impressive.

Apart from that, Apak Systems also has numerous related services, such as calendar tinning, laminating, shrink wrapping, and many more. In our opinion, this makes them a one-stop shop for all bookbinding needs.

Having said that, we were a bit bummed that they don’t have an online booking system, as we thought this would’ve made it more convenient for consumers to avail of their services.

Overall, we believe Apak Systems merits a spot on our list due to its extensive experience in the bookbinding industry, which enables them to accommodate jobs of all sizes.

Pros

  • Years of experience
  • Modern equipment
  • Can accommodate small and big binding orders
  • Numerous related services

Cons

  • No online booking system

Rasmussen Bindery was founded in 1978 by Holger Rasmussen, a master European bookbinder.

This establishment is located in North Vancouver, and they serve clients throughout British Columbia and across Canada, the United States, and Europe. In 2010,  Centennial Book Binding became a division of Rasmussen Bindery.

What we liked the most about this company is that they have experienced bookbinders.

We think this allows them to accommodate even the most complex jobs, ranging from hard and soft cover books, theses, and many more.

Rasmussen Bindery uses multiple binding methods such as signature sewing, flat black sewing, European double fan gluing, and many more. In our opinion, this allows them to provide the best technique for varying customer needs.

By foil-stamping, they can also add your name or company logo to the cover of your book, which is a great feature.

If there’s one drawback that we’ve observed with them, it’s that they don’t have repair services. We also think their website could be improved in terms of accessibility and design.

Despite that, we highly recommend Rasmussen Bindery, as they have a wide variety of binding services to accommodate many consumer needs.

Pros

  • Wide service area
  • Experienced team
  • Can accommodate even the most complex jobs
  • Personalization services available

Cons

  • Website can be improved
  • Repair services not available

Pacific Bindery had recent management changes in 2020, but they have not altered the company’s commitment to offering quality finishing and binding services.

They offer an incredible array of services using modern equipment to deliver a fast turnaround time. We think this establishment is ideal for those who are on a hectic deadline.

Pacific Bindery offers mechanical, spiral, and wire binding options. They’ve also incorporated Polyurethane Reactive Perfect Binding, which we believe makes them the ideal firm for commercial enterprises.

This is because this approach can bind a broader range of papers, finishes, inks, and coatings, as well as spot UV strikethrough effects.

We appreciate that Pacific Bindery has built a thorough, zero-waste, in-house recycling program through which they recycle all of their manufacturing waste.

Not only are these binding solutions efficient, but they are also environmentally conscious.

Now, we’re not big fans of the fact that they have relatively higher rates. Even so, we liked that they have numerous related services such as saddle stitching, precision cutting, and glue folding.

Pacific Bindery is, in our opinion, one of the best book binding services in Vancouver, since they employ many binding processes to bind a wide variety of papers.

Pros

  • Wide array of services
  • Utilizes modern equipment
  • Polyurethane Reactive Perfect Binding services available
  • Has a comprehensive zero waste in-house recycling program

Cons

  • Relatively higher rates
  • No repair services

Established in 2000, the Old English Bindery Co. is a traditional bindery located in Vancouver that specializes in the restoration of antiquarian books and documents and fine bindings.

We were also impressed that they have a wide variety of book repair services, whether your book is made of cloth, leather, or paper.

Aside from that, the Old English Bindery Co. can also accommodate new and fine bindings in a wide variety of materials.

They also offer complimentary embossing, whether you’d like to put your company logo or gold lettering on your name or title.

That said, we’re not sure we like that they’re only open by appointment as they don’t have regular store hours since they’re a workshop place.
