Lucy’s Eastside Diner has a real retro vibe and awesome comfort food. They’ve been around since 2007. People love it for that classic American diner feel. The best part? They’ve got a great mix of hearty meals and lighter options, especially during brunch. 

The vibe inside Lucy’s is so cool, with its 1950s decor, checkered floors, and colorful booths. It’s like stepping back in time. The walls are covered in vintage stuff, giving it a cozy yet lively feel. Plus, they’ve got classic diner music playing, which sets the mood. 

Let’s talk about the food. Lucy’s menu is all about classic American comfort food. They’ve got amazing dishes like Eggs Benny, Pulled Pork, and the super popular Fried Chicken Sandwich. 

The portions are huge, so you definitely won’t leave hungry. And you’ve got to try their milkshakes – they’re so creamy and delicious. They often have themed nights or special events, so watch their schedule for unique dining experiences.

The diner has a cool mix of rustic and modern decor. There are different areas to sit and enjoy your meal, like a rooftop terrace and a lounge. And get this—they have complimentary Wi-Fi and private dining options for larger groups. 

They’ve got this Prohibition Brunch special, which is a great deal, and they even have live music nights every Thursday. It’s such a cool spot for a good meal and a great time.

They’ve covered all the classic American dishes – fluffy pancakes, hearty burgers, and decadent milkshakes. They also host special events like “Diner Nights” with themed menus celebrating culinary traditions.

Walking into Sophie’s feels like stepping into a whimsical world. The place is inviting, with colorful decor and a collection of vintage toys and art that’ll make you feel nostalgic. 

Let’s talk about the food—a mix of classic diner dishes and creative comfort food. I’m talking Sante Fe Eggs Benedict, Cosmic Workout Burger, and the fluffiest Waffles with Berries and Whipped Cream. 

5. Helen’s Grill

The Red Wagon has been around since 2010. It’s a fantastic brunch scene, and it’s still killing it with delicious meals made from locally sourced ingredients. The best part is that they’re all about inclusivity and community, making it a real neighborhood hub.

When you walk in, you’re hit with this cozy yet lively vibe that’s just so inviting. The place is flooded with natural light, and there’s no need for reservations, so it’s a first-come, first-served deal. 

I love sitting at the counter, sipping on their freshly brewed coffee, and watching the chefs work their magic in the open kitchen. Plus, the staff is super friendly and on top of keeping your coffee cup full.

The Red Wagon also hosts special events and changes up its menu seasonally. But you’ll surely find a mix of classic diner dishes with creative twists. You’ve got to try their Breakfast Banh Mi with succulent pork belly and the Super Trucker.

7. Evelyn’s Coffee Shop

Evelyn’s Coffee Shop has been around since 1992, and let me tell you, when you walk into it, you’re hit with the most amazing smell of freshly brewed coffee. It’s inviting, and the decor gives off a cool retro vibe. 

Now, let’s talk about the food. Evelyn’s menu is filled with all sorts of Canadian comfort food made with fresh ingredients. Their pancakes are to die for, especially with all those fresh fruits on top. 

They also have awesome weekend brunch specials with unique dishes highlighting local ingredients. It’s where you can kick back and enjoy quality time with friends or have a quiet moment.

Douce Diner is owned by Chef Dawn Doucette, who competed on Top Chef Canada! The place has a cool retro vibe, and they serve the most delightful brunch. I love that they use local ingredients but add global flavors to their menu. 

The vintage-style decor gives it an old-school diner feel. They have indoor and patio seating and even offer takeout options. When I was there, I tried their Blackberry Lavender Kombucha, which was refreshing.

The must-tries from their menu are their Eggs Benny and the Denver-Ish Breakfast Bowl. What’s cool is that they occasionally host special events like pop-up dinners, which add to the community feel of the place.

9. Ovaltine Cafe

The place has so much history, too, being a staple in the Downtown Eastside for years. It has a full-service bar and comfy seating, perfect for catching up with friends over a coffee or a meal. 

One of my favorite things to do there is enjoy a leisurely breakfast while taking in all the retro decor—the classic booths and old-school memorabilia bring back memories of simpler times. 

The menu at Ovaltine Cafe features a mix of classic diner favorites, from burgers to sandwiches to an extensive breakfast selection. I couldn’t get enough of their pancakes and milkshakes.

10. Paul’s Omelettery Restaurant

Paul’s is known for its mouthwatering omelets, which are not your average. Unique ingredients like wild game and fine cheeses take these omelets to a new level. 

They also do special-themed brunches during holidays, adding extra excitement to the experience. Whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast or something lighter, they’ve got you covered.
