These 5 indoor plant shops in Vancouver had our house feeling like our nature retreat!

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Facilities -  We picked shops that were clean and well-organized, where it’s easy to see the different plans you’re considering for your home.

Plant Selection

> Quality - We chose shops where the plants are healthy and vibrant. It’s a plus if they also provide good-quality soil, pots, and other essentials.

> Variety - The shops should have a decent variety of plant species available.

Customer Service

> Professionalism - We assessed how friendly and accommodating the team is. We also considered whether the delivery arrives on time.

> Communication - Are they responsive to customer questions? Is it a good place to start for any beginners looking to take care of indoor plants?

Accessibility - Is it easy to locate the shop for a visit? Are they open at convenient times and on convenient dates in the year?

Ever felt like your home looked a little too drab? Don’t reach for the paint rollers and wallpaper just yet – not when you can always get yourself some nice indoor plants to give your home that much-needed pop of color.

Indoor plants have long been a favorite for home decor and gifts, but I know well how intimidating it can be to get one for the first time. Choosing not just the plant, but the soil, knowing when to water it, even adjusting the light? Talk about complicated!

It’s a good thing there’s no shortage of indoor plant shops in Vancouver, making that first step into earning your green thumb all the easier. If you want to start your own indoor jungle like I did, here are some shops you might want to try.

If you’re shopping for indoor plants in Vancouver, there’s a chance you might have heard of Frondly Plants already, especially if you prefer to do your shopping online!

Available both online and in-store, Frondly Plants rose to prominence for their easy accessibility. They offer a wide variety of houseplants and garden necessities for both buying and maintaining plants.

One point that wasn’t as accessible to us was their physical location. When we went for a visit, we had trouble locating the actual shop. We’d definitely recommend getting clearer directions from staff or locals if possible!

Once we got there, though, we were pleased to see the plants on display. We especially liked their section for pet-friendly indoor plants: it made it easy to browse for decor that won’t harm or be harmed by your fur babies.

When chatting with regulars, we also heard good things about the health and longevity of their plants. Many of them are reportedly easy to maintain.

That being said, some regulars also advised settling in for a wait if you buy online, as their delivery times could get quite long.

Pros

  • Wide variety of pet-friendly indoor plants
  • Easy maintenance plants
  • Reliable advice from staff
  • Easy to navigate online platform

Cons

  • Difficulty locating physical shop
  • Longer delivery times

Super helpful and detailed in their advice

“The plant is beautiful and healthy-looking, and the pot it came in is really nice. I reached out to the Frondly team to ask for advice on how to care for the plant, and they were super helpful and detailed in their advice.”

– Ms. Siba Saleh, Google Review

“Frondly Plants is a gem! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and patient—perfect for someone like me who struggles with plants. Their tips and healthy plant selection have turned my space into a mini oasis.”

Ask gardeners where they get their indoor plants, and there’s a chance some might have mentioned Hunters Garden Centre. Having been around for 70 years, it’s no wonder this garden center has become a familiar name around the area!

Being a garden center, Hunter’s Garden Centre has an inventory that spans outdoor, indoor, and edible plants. Their indoor plant selection goes beyond houseplants, also featuring custom flower arrangements for both home decor and events.

This inventory blew us away when we visited the store for the first time. We were pleased to find rare tropical indoor plants, such as hard-to-find alocasias and monsteras, sitting among various garden essentials like pots and soil.

We also love that they offer same-day delivery services. Regulars we spoke to seemed to especially appreciate this. It’s very handy for sending quick plants back home!

That being said, some regulars did tell us to grab rare plants while they’re there. The stock of plants in the store tends to fluctuate often.

We also noticed the limited parking space outside, so come early when you drop by for a visit.

Pros

  • Rare tropical plants in stock
  • Wide range of accessories and garden essentials
  • Offers custom flower arrangements
  • Same-day delivery

Cons

  • Limited parking space
  • Stock of plants may fluctuate

Lovely classic selection with some surprises

“Hunters is my favourite spot to get plants in season! Lovely classic selection with some surprises here and there – always good value. Staff are marvellous. Go early in the season for your favourites though as they can clear out!”

– Ms. Heather D., Google Review

A spectacular variety of rare philodendrons

“Beautiful selection of seasonal outdoor and tropical indoor plants. Indoor plants vary from large, tree-like plants to miniature terrarium specimens, including a spectacular variety of rare philodendrons! Definitely worth a visit for any plant lovers.”

If you’re looking for a cozy little spot to pick up your indoor plants, Figaro’s Garden might just be up your alley. This small indoor plant store has built a reputation for its offerings and gardening workshops, which cater to aspiring green thumbs.

The shop itself features a wide variety of indoor plants, from smaller succulents to full-grown firs. These came at surprisingly affordable prices too.

We were happy to find a number of pet-friendly plants and pots too. They’re fitting, to say the least, because the shop had its very own cat lounging about!

Another draw for regulars we chatted with was the wide variety of designs and materials for their pots. Whether you need fiberglass or ceramic pots for your indoor plants, there’s a good chance they have it.

On the other hand, we do have to mention that the shop itself is pretty small. This leads to a limited shop space and a cramped browsing experience.

Regulars also mentioned the long waiting time to check out since the shop is small with limited staff. Staying patient is definitely recommended when picking up plants here!

Pros

  • Affordable plants and supplies
  • Pet-friendly store and offerings
  • Wide variety of pot materials and designs

Cons

  • Small and cramped shop space
  • Long waiting time to check out

Staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful

“Best lil plant store in Vancouver area!! The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful on identifying the perfect plant for all my needs and then how to care properly for them as well.”

– Mr. Tommy Le, Google Review

Well curated selection of interesting indoor plants

“Truly a gem of East Van with a helpful and knowledgeable team! They have a well curated selection of interesting indoor plants, great selection of seeds, and for a small footprint nursery they still have a pretty broad selection of outdoor plants!”

If you’re in the market for a unique shopping experience, Southlands Nursery is a favorite recommendation of ours.

The shop got famous around Vancouver for looking like a greenhouse, with almost a whole greenhouse’s worth of plants on offer. They stood out extra to us because of their complimentary coffee nook: talk about unique!

Thanks to the size of the store, we were able to find it without much issue. What we saw was definitely aesthetically pleasing.

They had a wide selection of seasonal indoor plants, from perennials to Christmas trees. They’re perfect for ringing in the holiday season.

When we got to chatting with a few regulars, though, a few mentioned that the shop might be better for veteran gardeners due to the difficulty of the plants they sell. They reportedly required more upkeep and maintenance when first bought.

We also noticed that the shop itself could be pretty difficult to navigate, despite the larger space. The displays were eye-catching, but we did experience difficulty finding specific plants without requesting staff assistance.

Pros

  • Good variety of seasonal plants
  • Easy to find location
  • Large store space
  • Complimentary coffee
  • Relaxing shop ambiance and displays

Cons

  • Plants sold can be difficult to maintain when bought
  • Difficulty locating specific plants

The plants are thoughtfully chosen

“This place really is magical. It has a tranquil and relaxing ambiance and is filled with so many unique varieties. The plants are thoughtfully chosen, well looked after, beautifully presented and healthy.”

– Ms. Karen K., Google Review

Their plant collections are unique

“They have many choices of seeds, their plant collections are unique, decorations inside the store were so inspiring though. Had self-serve chocolate drink for free. I fall in love with their mini cactus bright color and put in the rattan basket.”

– Ms. Lin Tan, Google Review

Gardenworks might be a familiar name among gardeners looking for their next indoor plant – mostly because it’s everywhere! With a number of locations all around Vancouver, this garden center is known as a favorite hotspot for gardeners.

The offerings at Gardenworks stood out to us for how easy it was to browse. Their indoor plants were all sorted well on their online websites. They’re categorized based on which ones were good for low-light areas, which ones crawled, and more.

When we paid one of the locations a visit, we were pleased to find the same care put into the browsing experience at the physical stores.

It wasn’t hard at all for us to just walk around the place looking at plants, though we were a little disappointed to find a limited number of perennials on offer.

That being said, regulars we spoke to assured us of the plants’ quality. They mentioned that they’re suited to beginners thanks to their healthy condition when bought, requiring little maintenance and light upkeep.

As a result, though, we did notice the higher cost for their plants. We’d definitely recommend planning a budget before buying at the store!

Pros

  • Easy to browse layout
  • Carefully organized online store
  • Healthy and easy-to-maintain products
  • Numerous locations

Cons

  • Limited selection of perennial flowers
  • Higher cost for products

It’s a big space with lots to explore

“You really can’t go wrong with any of the GardenWorks locations, and this is another great one. It’s a big space with lots to explore with plants, garden supplies, home décor, and more.”

– Mr. Ryan Broderick, Google Review

Options for every type of garden enthusiast

“The selection of plants and pots is impressive, with options for every type of garden enthusiast. What really stood out was the level of care and service — they even helped us with potting and offered thoughtful suggestions on plant combinations.”

– Mr. Amit Thakur, Google Review
