5 Best Pain Specialists in Vancouver That You’ll Surely Thank After Getting Treatment

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Experience: We chose clinics with years of practice and a proven track record in pain management and rehabilitation. Those with experienced specialists ranked higher.

Services Offered: We selected clinics that have a wide range of treatments, including diagnostics, pain management, and rehabilitation.

Pricing: We prefer clinics with transparent and fair pricing and those that accept insurance and services covered by the Medical Services Plan (MSP).

Customer Service: We also considered how clinics accommodate their patients from booking to follow-up appointments.

As writers and researchers, we spend a good amount of our day just hunched in front of our computers. So it’s not surprising that a few members of our Best in Vancouver team have been struggling with various aches lately, from stiff necks to sore shoulders.

It’s been affecting our work, so we finally gave in and decided to do something about it. Instead of relying on painkillers or makeshift massage, we started looking for the most trusted pain specialists in Vancouver to ensure we get lasting relief.

We researched, talked to other locals, reached out to clinics, and even scheduled consultations to find the best ones. If you’re dealing with similar discomfort, here’s a list that will point you to the right clinic.

How much do pain specialists charge in Vancouver?

A pain specialist in Vancouver may charge from $40 to $600, depending on the treatment you need. Steroid injections are cheaper compared to advanced procedures, like platelet-rich plasma and Botox injections.

LifeAgain Musculoskeletal Pain Clinic is headed by Dr. Pam Squire and Dr. Ahmed Amayem. Both are experienced physicians who specialise in treating musculoskeletal issues and pain medicine.

This clinic stood out to us for its comprehensive treatment. They treat lower back pain, frozen shoulder, and connective tissue disorder.

We especially appreciate Dr. Squire’s approach to meeting her patients. She takes her time to listen and explain the treatment plan and risks associated with the patient’s condition. Many told us they felt comfortable throughout the appointment.

Dr. Ahmed also earned praise for his thoroughness. He reviews patients’ medical histories and thoroughly conducts tests to carefully create a personalised treatment plan for each patient.

Pricing-wise? They have reasonable pricing, with their Botox injections starting at $200. Most of their treatments are also covered by the MSP.

The clinic itself adds to the positive experience. It’s spacious, clean, and quiet. Plus, the skyline view from their huge window creates a relaxing environment during appointments.

However, since they’re a small team, expect that appointment slots fill up quickly.

Pros

  • Highly experienced physicians
  • Comprehensive treatment range
  • Personalised care approach
  • Reasonable pricing
  • Relaxing clinic environment

Cons

  • Limited appointment availability

Dedicated doctor

“Dr Squire is a lifesaver. After years of on-again/off-again lower back pain, she was the first therapist — and I had seen dozens — who identified the root cause of my pain. She treated me for 2-1/2 years, during most of which time I was entirely pain free. She has many, many therapies and if one is not working, she tries something else. She travels the world to learn new techniques and methods. She is passionate about and dedicated to helping people get past their pain. If you have pain, you should definitely go to see Dr Squire.”

– Mr. Edwin Blewett, Google Review

Excellent clinic

“Finding a doctor who truly listens and takes the time to understand your concerns can be a challenge these days. Dr. Amayem is a shining example of what excellent healthcare professional should look like.

From the moment you walk into his office, you feel valued. Dr. Amayem patiently listens to your medical history, asking insightful questions to get a complete picture of your health. He then conducts a thorough physical examination.

What truly sets Dr. Amayem apart is his commitment to clear communication. He explains all available treatment options in detail, answering any questions you may have with patience and clarity. When it comes to injection therapy, Dr. Amayem demonstrates care and precision, ensuring a comfortable and safe experience.

If you’re looking for a doctor who prioritizes your well-being and takes the time to truly understand your needs, Dr. Amayem is an excellent choice.”

MuscleMD has built a strong reputation in Whistler and Victoria, so we’re glad to see them bring their service to Vancouver.

One highlight of this clinic is that they don’t use oral medications in treating pain. Instead, they use Trigger Point Injection Therapy (TPI) to treat injury, muscular issues, and headaches.

For those who prefer a less invasive option, the clinic offers Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) treatments. We really appreciate that they give patients flexibility in how they manage pain.

Another advantage we saw is that they have more than five doctors. This allows the clinic to accommodate multiple patients at once, which can be very advantageous for those needing timely care.

The loyalty their patients have is also impressive. Many have been with MuscleMD for years, which says a lot about the reliability and effectiveness of the clinic’s treatments.

We also want to commend the atmosphere in the clinic. Unlike others that feel cramped and noisy, MuscleMD provides comfortable seating for waiting and a nice window view.

The only disadvantage is that they’re not that active on email. For inquiries, it’s best to call them.

Pros

  • Reputable clinic
  • Drug-free approach
  • Alternative treatment options
  • Multiple doctors available
  • Strong patient loyalty
  • Comfortable clinic environment
  • Reasonable pricing

Cons

  • Slow email response

Great treatment plan

“I have had chronic pain for years that was completely unexplained and I got a referral to this clinic from my family doctor clinic to try trigger point injections.

After seven sessions I started to notice an improvement and after several months I can officially say I’ve had the least pain in my shoulders and neck that I’ve had since I can remember.

Then the other day I saw Dr Dhanoa for the first time since coming to the clinic and within minutes of seeing me he noticed a series of symptoms I had that led him to screening me for a disorder and diagnosing me on the spot. I hadn’t even considered the disorder but now that I have the diagnosis it explains 28 years of medical mysteries that I have suffered with.

I’m so relieved to finally have answers and also have a treatment plan that helps reduce my chronic pain. I recommend this clinic to everyone.”

– Mr. Jade LaFontaine, Google Review

Helpful doctor

“I’ve been getting treatments at MuscleMD with Dr. Dhanoa for coming on four years now, and recently also with Dr. Bhattacharyya, and they are both amazing.  I seriously would either be in the ground or a padded cell were it not for them.  I got injured 8.5 years ago and suffer greatly with muscle, nerve, and ligament pain and most things have not been effective, other than the treatments that they have at MuscleMD.  They also really take the time to get to to know the person behind the patient and take a full history, that they listen to and use to further help you with making new diagnoses on your conditions that have been missed for years.  I one million % recommend them and am so thankful for all their help over these years.”

CPRI Medical & Rehab stood out to us because of their strong workforce. Unlike other clinics with just one or two doctors, CPRI has 25+ specialists on board.

From pain medicine doctors to sports medicine specialists, they have it. This means patients don’t need to be referred elsewhere or wait for weeks to see a particular professional for their condition.

Their doctors also use different treatment methods, such as dry needling, exercise, and radiofrequency ablation. That means patients aren’t limited to a few treatment approaches, and they have better chances of finding treatments that work for them.

They treat almost any type of pain, including injuries, back pain, and nerve pain. The clinic also offers rehabilitation, a strength of its own. This is especially helpful for those recovering from accidents or chronic conditions.

We also find their services reasonably priced. For their 90-minute assessment, they only charge $200. Their treatments are also covered by MSP except for their rehabilitation services.

However, there’s a strict no-show policy here. You’ll still be charged if you can’t make it to your appointment, regardless of the reason.

Pros

  • Large team of specialists
  • Wide range of treatments
  • Comprehensive pain management
  • Strong rehabilitation services
  • Well-priced services

Cons

  • Strict no-show policy

Welcoming and professional doctor

“This is my second time going for an ovation with Dr. Mian. The first one lasted five years pain-free 100% results. So I was quite pleasant and surprised today and as always the care that is given to the patient very friendly, very welcoming and very professional.”

– Ms. Sandra Laframboise, Google Review

Helpful and reassuring results

“A few weeks ago I saw Dr. Ho for EDS related cervical issues and nerve pain. I’m so grateful for the assessment with him, he was very helpful and the results were reassuring! I left with a referral to Dr. Best for pain management, whom I saw today. He was so concise and thorough, but also kind. I appreciate the professionalism of everyone here”

Changepain Medical & Allied Health Clinic is a 7-year-old clinic offering treatments for body pain and function.

They offer a comprehensive pain treatment ranging from prolotherapy to radiofrequency lesioning. Since they provide a mix of medical therapy and allied health support, patients can receive both diagnostic care and long-term care.

Another great thing about this clinic is that it also offers rehabilitation, including physiotherapy, chiropractic, and counselling sessions. This is excellent news for those who need to recover from accidents or injuries.

Their doctors are also professional and personable. They allow time for the patient to ask questions and seek clarification before proceeding with the treatment. This is important because it helps patients feel informed and comfortable.

They also have online booking via the TELUS Health app. This offers convenience, especially for those who are far from the clinic.

Despite their quality service, we’re a bit disappointed that the clinic is located in the basement. This makes it hard to access most especially for patients with mobility issues and already experiencing pain. Parking is also challenging.

Pros

  • changepain-medical-allied-health-clinic-logo
  • Integrated care approach
  • Rehabilitation services available
  • Patient-centered doctors
  • Convenient online booking

Cons

  • Basement location is hard to access
  • Parking can be tricky

Informative doctor

“I’m on the wait list for my referral into the clinic and I’ve been deeply impressed by the compassionate way my inquiries have been handled and by the ability to engage through the group learning sessions on my own time. They are really informative, and also very human and give space for questions and comments that really make it a rich experience.

I wish our whole health care system worked on this model and with this much respect and compassion for patients.”

“My experience with Dr. GLAUBER Mello was very good. He helps me a lot going through my pain.

The team here are amazing!

The GMV sessions are really helpful.

So , I’m very happy to be a patient here!”

painPRO impressed us with their big team of specialists, including massage therapists, chiropractors, and physiotherapists. Their clinic is staffed by professionals, making it a solid option for any type of pain.

They treat everything from whiplash and computer-related strain to pregnancy discomfort and accidental injuries. Even concussion recovery is part of their scope, which shows how comprehensive their care really is.

Their range of services is equally impressive, ranging from kinesiology to clinical pilates. Each service is handled by dedicated specialists, so patients can expect focused and expert attention.

Their providers work hand in hand and communicate with each other to create a personalised plan for their patients. For instance, a patient needed massage therapy and acupuncture, and the specialists worked together to support her recovery.

They also allow same-day appointments as long as there’s an available specialist. Still, we recommend having an advance booking to avoid disappointment.

Just one thing to note is that the quality of their service varies depending on the practitioner assigned. Some patients feel their session is rushed, while some say that their massage felt painful.

Pros

  • Large multidisciplinary team
  • Treats a wide range of conditions
  • Extensive service offerings
  • Collaborative care approach
  • Same-day appointments available
  • Strong workforce

Cons

  • Inconsistent service quality

Highly skilled therapist

“The therapist was highly skilled, professional, and attentive. She tailored the session to my needs, and I left feeling relaxed with less muscle tension. Her attention to detail and genuine care really stood out. Highly recommend Vicky Zhang for quality massage therapy! Thank you Vicky Zhang…”

– Ms. Hoda Ya, Google Review

Professional and discreet specialist

“After living with constant pain in my left hip/buttock area for over 2 months, one massage treatment by Geoff alleviated most of the pain, and 3 days later, it continues to improve. Yes, I’m doing the stretches he showed me.  As a senior woman,  I appreciated Geoff’s professionalism and discretion.  I recommend him highly.  Thanks, Geoff!”
