After almost twenty weekends of practicing our golf swings at a public driving range (and mini golf games on Wii Sports here and there), we decided to level up our game. We figured that it’s finally the right time to hit the real turf.
And since Vancouver is home to the best private golf courses, we signed up as new members. Now, our weekends are filled with all things green and just enjoy the sound of clubs hitting the balls—minus the crowd!
So if you also prefer a more premium experience at a golf club, make sure to sign up in one of these private golf courses in the city. Continue reading this blog as we give you a list of the ones we tried and loved!
How much does a private golf course membership cost in Vancouver?
In Vancouver, initiation fees for a private golf course membership can start at $100,000. Moreover, annual fees or maintenance fees apply, which can start at $10,000.

Since we wanted to check out a private golf course that has a classic layout design, we decided to visit the Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club first. This golf club has been around since 1911, with a par-73 course, open for beginners and pros.
Because of its classic layout, it’s a great club to host tournaments. In fact, you can catch known tournaments, including events by the Professional Golfers’ Association.
We also love going here as we get a great view of the Fraser River whenever we play golf. Additionally, we appreciate walking along their well-kept tree-lined fairways, which honestly feels like our own well-landscaped garden.
While the holes are not too far away from each other, we noticed that they’re pretty challenging. So if you’re a beginner, you might get intimidated on your first time.
After your tee time, you can enjoy comfort food at their restaurant. This restaurant is still exclusive for members, so you would really enjoy its premium experience.
But don’t worry, if you’re already a member, you can invite a non-member for dinner, so you can share the luxurious treat. We suggest reserving a table at the patio area, so you can enjoy the views of the river during sunset.
Aside from the golf courses, you can also enjoy exclusive access to their tennis courts.
Classic layout design
“Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club is truly one of the best golf courses in Canada. Tucked away along the beautiful shores of the Fraser River, this private club in Vancouver offers an exceptional golf experience—from its stunning, tree-lined layout to its perfectly maintained greens and fairways. The course is both challenging and rewarding, with a classic design that has hosted top-tier events like the RBC Canadian Open. The staff are professional, the service is first-class, and the views are spectacular. A true gem for any serious golfer lucky enough to play here.”

Great restaurant menu
“Quite simply, the best club in the province. Superb kitchen–always consistent–that never tries to get fancy with the menu. Excellent service and the venue is breathtaking. Expertly designed among the woodlands of South Vancouver, overlooking the water, on the breathtaking Musqueam lands. Incomparable. UPDATED: Huge upgrade in staff. Was good before, great now! Excellent changes to already terrific menu. Wait list to get on, but worth every penny.”

If you’re looking for a private golf course that is just a few minutes drive away from downtown Vancouver, then we highly suggest Point Grey Golf & Country Club. It’s a great stop after a day’s work—just before you eat dinner!
We love that we can go straight to tee time, as there are several parking slots available from day to night. So no need to worry about allotting time to search for parking spots, especially if you’re catching your reservation.
It’s worth mentioning, however, that this private golf course is not friendly for commuters. While it’s manageable, we still recommend bringing your own car, or at least booking a ride-sharing service to avoid inconvenience.
Our most favorite part here in Point Grey Golf & Country Club would have to be their practice area called The Farm. Through their TrackMan Range, you’ll get a chance to know the details of your club swings, allowing you to see your progress in every shot.
We also love how nice their staff is. They are relatively friendly, and will make sure you’re well taken care of from the moment you step out of your car.
And if you’re here during Christmas, make sure to take your kids with you as the club provides a premium Santa event for you. You can even spot Santa flying on his helicopter, which you won’t see elsewhere!
Challenging holes
“Fantastic private golf club featuring a beautiful and well maintained track that has diverse and challenging holes. Pro shop and clubhouse are also top notch, friendly staff, and good food. The driving range and practice areas are very well done also; fully covered, premium balls, and trackman. Always a pleasure and treat to be able to play here.”

Friendly staff
“An amazing golf course, which is very well maintained, often hard to find.
Went with a bunch of friends we were well treated. The staff at point grey are friendly.”

Marine Drive Golf Club is the go-to private golf course in Vancouver that is known to cater to all skill levels. This golf club is located near the Fraser River, so you can enjoy playing while being surrounded by the calm waters.
Here, holes are placed closely together, so walkability is ideal for the older club members. Additionally, this golf course is playable year-round, so it’s perfect for non-seasonal golfers like us.
Another thing that we liked about this private golf course is its large locker facilities. It’s well spaced out, so you won’t feel like it’s even a shared space among golf club members.
Speaking of other golf club members, we noticed that they were pretty friendly and warm too. In fact, we were able to make new friends during our first day here at Marine Drive Golf Club.
However, be ready to pay a very premium price if you’re signing up here. Initiation fees can go as high as $50,000, with annual fees that can range around $7,000.
Meanwhile, we find their staff very welcoming, unless you’re inquiring about private events. We were planning to host a birthday celebration here, but since coordination was a bit challenging, we decided to look for another venue instead.
Can host minor tournaments
“We have a golf tournament here every year and it’s always such a huge success! Wally and his team are extremely attentive, helpful, friendly, and well organized. Thank you!”

We originally checked out Quilchena Golf & Country Club when a friend mentioned about this private golf course’s family-friendly setup. And true enough, as we walked in their place, there’s this instant relaxing vibe that welcomed us.
Well, maybe the ocean breeze and the great mountain views really added to the whole relaxing experience. Plus, the staff was really friendly, especially to the kids, which made them very comfortable right off the bat.
Our most favorite part of this golf course is their practice area and their driving range. We think that it’s a perfect place to squeeze in a few swings after a long day at work.
For the advanced players out there, you can also enjoy a couple of challenging holes here and there. They are also spaced out well enough, so you don’t need to worry about longer walks.
While you’re here, don’t forget to try the food from the clubhouse. Our top favorites were the four cheese bolognese and their pork schnitzel!
It’s worth noting, however, that the course can get a little soggy during the rainy season. So make sure you’re wearing the right footwear during the rainy months–or at least bring a pair if the weather seems unpredictable.
Moreover, they host several events which makes their place highly accessible to the general public.
Hosts fundraising golf events
“Private course, however we played in a fundraiser there so got to enjoy a day at Quilchena. Facilities are top notch, golf course in great shape, and the banquet staff were friendly and professional. The Prime Rib Buffet and the food was very good.”

Great mountain views
“Golfing is great. Always a fresh breeze off the ocean and views of the mountains. Well maintained course. Club house is clean, well kept and welcoming. Excellent wedding venue. The food is very good with various themed night like pasta thursdays or prime rib nights. Full service bar. Staff are always friendly and helpful.”

We tagged along Northview Golf & Country Club since our friend wouldn’t stop raving about it. And honestly, we’re glad that we did—and we’re sharing why!
From the moment we stepped in this private golf course, we immediately felt like we’re far away from downtown Vancouver. Aside from the fresh air that welcomed us, the golf course has wider fairways, which gives us more room to breathe (literally!).
If you want to try the course that hosts PGA tournaments, we suggest booking the Ridge Course. Just be ready for challenging holes here, so it isn’t quite friendly for beginners—unless you’re not too competitive!
We loved how accommodating the staff is, but they also made sure to keep their distance, especially if you prefer to enjoy your tee time alone. But for chatty ones, like us, you’ll probably love their fun energy too.
Here’s a little heads up for you, though: make sure to book ahead if you’re planning to go on a weekend, as last-minute bookings are pretty challenging (we were never successful on this one!).
After playing, you can grab food and drinks at the clubhouse. And if you want a great view of the course and the mountains, we suggest reserving a table at the patio.
Live music is available
“Had an amazing dinner on the patio. The live music by Rob Eller was so nice. We stayed longer just so we could keep listening to him. The beef short rib was excellent too and the sunset was the prefect way to end the night. We will definitely be back again!”
Farah Anderson, Google Review
Very organized and well-maintained
“We truly enjoyed the gorgeous views of the mountains. The golf course seems to be well organized and maintain as well. I definitely will go back and highly recommend it!”
