Do you enjoy marveling at crescent-shaped wonders like the moon or a croissant? Well, get ready for an adventure at Crescent Beach!
Fun fact: Crescent Beach in Vancouver got its name from the distinct curve of its shoreline. It boasts breathtaking views of Boundary Bay and the surrounding coastal scenery.
If you’re ready for an amazing day at this iconic spot, read on to experience the beach like a true beach aficionado!
What is Crescent Beach in Vancouver known for?
Crescent Beach is known for its scenic beauty, sandy shores, and laid-back vibe in Vancouver. It’s a go-to spot for relaxation, leisurely walks, and water activities like swimming and paddleboarding.
Plus, its picturesque views of Boundary Bay make it a hit with photographers and nature enthusiasts.
Best Time to Go
The best time to go to Crescent Beach is in the summer. Locals and tourists are all around, munching on fish and chips and just soaking in those sunny vibes.
You may still visit during the fall and winter, when the beach transforms into an awesome storm-watching haven.
Things to Know
Operating hours: You may enjoy Crescent Beach from dawn until dusk.
Parking: Parking can be tough, but it’s free. Head to the small lot on the north side (turn right off Beecher Street onto McBride and go all the way to the end). But weekends fill up fast, so be prepared to hunt for street parking—this might mean a bit of a walk.
On hot days, parking’s even trickier. Be patient, and you might need to head to Blackie Spit at the far end. Hopefully, you’ll snag a spot eventually.
Washroom: Finding a bathroom might be a bit of a challenge at times since your options are spaced out.
Swimming: While the beach is perfect for tanning, walks at low tide, and sandcastle building, swimming isn’t ideal due to its shallow waters and occasional swimmer’s itch.
Dogs: Keep pups off the walkway from mid-May to mid-September. On-leash dogs are okay further down the beach.
Nearby, Blackie Spit Park welcomes them too, with off-leash spots and a special swim area. Just make sure they stay out of the environmentally sensitive location.
Accessibility: The beach now has wheelchairs available for loan at the lifeguard station in Sullivan Point Park from 11 am to 7 pm during the summer.
They’re equipped with chest straps and a seatbelt and can be used with the help of an attendant, friend, or family member.
How to Get Around
Trains: There are no direct trains to Crescent Beach, but don’t sweat it! Just hop on the SkyTrain to Surrey Central Station, then grab a bus or taxi to reach the beach.
Bus: From downtown Vancouver, hop on the “351 Crescent Beach” bus from Burrard Station Bay 3. It stops at Sullivan Street and Kidd Road in Crescent Beach.
Then walk west along Sullivan for one block, and turn left onto McBride Avenue. It’s about a 1.5-hour ride costing $4 (coins only!).
Taxis: Need a ride? Taxis are your go-to option. Just flag one down or call up your favorite taxi company in Surrey, and they’ll whisk you to and from Crescent Beach in no time.
Car: Follow Highway 99 south to Exit 10 for Highway 99A toward White Rock/Crescent Beach. Then take the Crescent Beach ramp and hang a left onto Elgin Road.
From there, it’s a right onto Crescent Road, which turns into Beecher Street. Swing right onto Sullivan Street and then make a sharp left onto McBride Avenue. Easy peasy!

Whale watching at the beach is a quintessential British Columbia experience.
In Vancouver, you’ve got some tours that’ll get you up close and personal with these gentle giants, along with other amazing marine mammals.
This activity runs best from April to October, guaranteeing the most whale sightings. With tours lasting around 3 to 5 hours, we reckon you’ve got plenty of time to soak in all the wonders of the ocean.
To maximize your trip, we recommend throwing in some sunset cruises, sea lion expeditions, and maybe even a crab fishing adventure to your list too.
Build a Fairytale Sandcastle

A popular fun family activity at Crescent Beach is building sandcastles! All you need is sand, a shovel, a bucket, and loads of imagination.
Low tide is the prime time for embracing your inner architect. Start by finding a spot closer to the high tide line where the sand is moist but not too wet, and let your creativity roam free! But, of course, it’s best to keep an eye on the tide.
For us, there’s something incredibly thrilling about watching the ocean flow around your castle as it gently reclaims the sand.
Go on a Biking Adventure

Kick off your adventure at Blackie Spit and hop on the Crescent Beach Trail. Then, you can cruise along Crescent Road for a leisurely 3-kilometer ride to Elgin Heritage Park and the Historic Stewart Farm.
You’ll step back in time as you soak up Surrey’s pioneer life from 1894 to 1910 at the farmhouse and grounds. You’ll soon pedal your way through shoreline trails and the Nicomekl Trail, treating yourself to breathtaking river views and very large green fields.
Don’t be afraid of getting lost, either. As you wrap up your ride, simply turn around and head back to the inviting shores of Crescent Beach. Easy as pie!

What makes the restaurant stand out for us is its pizza dough. Prepared over 48 to 72 hours, it typically creates a light and crispy crust. Plus, it’s easy on the stomach, so you can indulge without worry.
As for the toppings, we believe they make super tasty vegetarian options. We recommend Natalino’s Hawaiian pizza with shredded coconut, cilantro, and fresh pineapple. But if you want that kick, try the spicy pepperoni.

Tips When Visiting Crescent Beach
Now that you’ve got a handle on how things work at the beach, here are some extra tips to make sure your trip goes smoothly:
Time Your Beach Visit Right Check the weekly tide times and charts in advance! Aim for low tide when Crescent Beach shows off its expansive sandy stretch. High tide is okay too, but you’ll have less beach to spread out on.
Slap on Some Oil-Based Sunscreen This helps ward off those pesky duck and goose mites that might turn your beach day into a scratching saga.
Don’t Forget the Beach Toys Grab a shovel and pails for some serious sandcastle action. Crescent Beach is practically a sandbox paradise, so unleash your inner architect and get building!
Join Sunset Yoga See if there are sunset yoga classes on Crescent Beach. For us, yoga as the sun sets can be incredibly serene and rejuvenating.
Go Beachcombing Release your inner explorer and head out for some beachcombing! Search for seashells, sea glass, and other treasures washed ashore by the tide.
Just remember to take only a few souvenirs (or none at all) if you must, so the beach ecosystem remains undisturbed.
