The centre has been in operation since 1943 and is one of the city’s first community centres. This staying power is well reflected in their offerings, which cater to all ages and preferences.

Just make sure to check the website ahead of time for schedules and fees. For instance, the exercise room has a drop-in fee of CAD 4.25, while the Maple Grove outdoor pool, which opens during the summer, can be accessed for CAD 6.40.

The West End Community Centre is a wonderful place to visit, as everything is clean and well-maintained. They also offer a lot of activities and amenities, such as the fitness centre, pottery studio, and the Little Sprouts Preschool,

The community center’s library is a great resource not only for book enthusiasts but also for those who are running errands and suddenly need to print documents. The process is seamless, and the staff is always ready to assist.

Pro tip: Denman Street is a busy commercial street. Keep in mind that many parking zones around the community center require permits, and metered parking on Denman Street is free only during off-peak times.

Dunbar Community Centre

Trout Lake Community Centre

The Trout Lake Community Centre first opened in 1963 and was revitalized in 2012. It has a well-staffed fitness centre, an ice rink originally designed as a training site for the 2010 Olympic Games, and a gymnasium available for rent on various occasions.

Smaller compared to other community centres, the False Creek Community Centre still boasts beautiful rooms, a spacious gym, and a number of community programs. They host a variety of classes for pottery, martial arts, music, and dance here, among others.

What sets this community center apart is its emphasis on waterfront sports (kayaking in vancouver) (it’s on Granville Island after all!) For those 19 years and older, there’s the Combo Kayak/SUP Club, while the Kayak Club and Stand Up Paddle Club cater to those aged 13 and above.

With expert instructors and the sheltered waters of Alder Bay, beginners seeking to grasp the fundamentals and build the confidence to paddle will find this experience just right.
