The Langara Golf Course is located along Alberta street near South Vancouver.  Made in 1926, this course has brought enjoyment to Vancouverites for many years, and to make sure it stays relevant, the greenery was redesigned by Canadian architect Thomas Mcbroom.

Golfers can choose to play the front 9, back 9, or all 18 holes depending on the challenge they want to face.  The front 9 puts players in contact with some relatively narrow fairways, mind, so accuracy plays an important factor.

Alternatively, the back 9 offers longer shots but is littered with sand traps here and there.  Overall, the course is easy to walk and many players both new and old enjoy honing their skills here.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the many rolling hills that are sprinkled all throughout the course.  This adds another challenge that players must take into account when teeing off or driving

Pros

  • Offers golf cart rentals
  • Generally manageable for most golfers
  • Tests golfers accuracy with narrow fairways

Cons

  • No driving range

 Customer Reviews

The Langara Golf Course offers a manageable challenge to novices, and a calm scenic game to veterans:

“It is so beautiful, in addition to being fun and challenging, the staff at Langara have also been known for putting out a great game day spread once you finish your round. You can enjoy your meal with views of beautiful green spaces pastures and some really nice homes.” – Afrose K.

“I like this course! Some of the fairways are open, and others are more tight. The greens are big and in great condition. However they are undulating and pretty challenging. Not many water hazards, but a few sand traps sprinkled throughout.” – Bob S.

The McCleery Golf Course is an excellent space for players who really want to drill themselves on certain aspects of their technique.  From the course to the facilities, many golfers will find that this course has much to offer as a practice space.

Starting with the newly renovated driving range, players can polish their golf stroke in comfort with few distractions. If you’re confident enough in your swing to challenge the course, you’ll find that accuracy is the name of the game.

Thanks to the mind of Ted Baker, this course is wrought with tall trees and several water hazards.  As a result, the course is well-suited to the golfer who is considerably skilled in target-style golf.

For those who are still unfamiliar with golfing jargon, target-style golfing encourages the most efficient path from point A to point B.  That’s why this is a great course to work on for accuracy – just be sure to bring bug spray in the summer as there are quite a few mosquitoes.

Pros

  • Great for target-style golf
  • Has plenty of trees and water hazards
  • Equipped with a driving range

Cons

  • Challenging for players with poor accuracy
  • Summertime brings lots of mosquitoes

 Customer Reviews

This course has earned much praise thanks to its excellent facilities and target-style course:

“McCleery is a great course and has a fantastic range and practice facilities. During covid they practice social distancing and are decently organized when it comes to letting people in to the pro shop and range.  Although sometimes there are plenty of empty mats at the range, sometimes the staff can’t see and people need to wait longer than they need to.  The course is awesome and well kept..” – JJ F.

“Paid this course a visit twice while I was in Vancouver during the summer. This is a public course which is very well take care of. The only problem with this course is the mosquitos. They will definitely eat you alive during the summer months, so bring repellent. The greens were great and always in god shape. For a public course , you can’t ask for much more. Hit them long and straight! The staff very super friendly and helpful!” – Jeff M.
