Where Do the Rich in Vancouver Live?

Vancouver is a lovely city with plenty to see and do.  One of the main reasons that Vancouver is such a great place to live in is its rich history and culture.

If you’ve been to Vancouver and are curious about the richest neighborhoods in Vancouver, this article may be able to help. The following neighborhoods are what are referred to as rich neighborhoods in Vancouver.

Richest Neighborhoods in Vancouver

The wealthy live in neighborhoods with some of the highest land values, such as Shaughnessy Heights, Kerrisdale Park, Kitsilano and Point Grey, and West Vancouver.

Let’s take a look at what makes these neighborhoods so valuable and the other amenities they provide.

Shaughnessy Heights

Shaughnessy Heights is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in British Columbia, located west of Granville Street and east of Connaught Drive.

Many of the homes in Shaughnessy Heights were designed by top Vancouver architects, including Maclure & Fox, Parr & Fee, Sharp & Thompson, and Thomas Hooper.

Residents at Shaughnessy Heights enjoy plenty of shopping areas in Arbutus, such as the Arbutus Shopping Centre and two hospitals.

Meanwhile, if you enjoy gardens, this neighborhood has nine parks with extensive jogging and cycling trails, playgrounds, and pet-friendly areas.

In addition, on the eastern side of Shaughnessy Heights sits the VanDusen Botanical Garden (row 146, Is VanDusen Botanical Garden in Vancouver worth it?), a 55-acre oasis with over 7,500 plants worldwide. This garden also hosts the annual Festival of Lights. Fireworks illuminate the spectacular English Bay during the festival.

With all of this in mind, it’s no surprise that Shaughnessy Heights is one of Vancouver’s most expensive neighborhoods. The median price of residential properties in Shaughnessy Heights is CAD 7,090,000, with an average cost of CAD 1,510 per square foot.

Kerrisdale Park

Kerrisdale is a residential neighborhood in Vancouver that’s home to some of the city’s wealthiest residents. This charming area of the city has a variety of unique sights and shops to suit any Vancouverite’s tastes.

It’s close to the airport and about a 15-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The streets are pedestrian-friendly, with CPR train tracks that are no longer in use, providing a walking path through town.

Kerrisdale’s tree-lined streets welcome you with a mix of small businesses, casual restaurants, and independent clothing stores that contribute to the neighborhood’s laid-back vibe.

The Kerrisdale Shopping Strip is well worth a visit because it has a diverse selection of boutiques, restaurants, massage salons, and other amenities. Kerrisdale is generally high-end, but some older apartment buildings have reasonable rents.

Several public parks are nearby, including Kerrisdale Centennial Park, Elm Park, and Maple Grove Park.

The average townhouse in Kerrisdale Park has an average listing price of CAD 2,272,000. Meanwhile, residential properties cost around CAD 747,000 to CAD 22,000,000.

Kitsilano and Point Grey

Point Grey Road in Kitsilano is one of Vancouver’s luxurious neighborhoods, with a mix of beach houses, traditional-style properties, and modern architectural residential real estate.

A private road leads to a stretch of the Kitsilano waterfront that is ideal for walking or biking. It also has a clear view of the Vancouver skyline.

If you plan on visiting this neighborhood, you should probably enroll in a driving school so you can get your license and drive to Kitsilano.

The area is also close to many family-friendly attractions such as Kitsilano Beach, museums such as the Museum of Vancouver and the Maritime Museum, and an extensive selection of restaurants and retail shops along West 4th Avenue and West Broadway.

You can also get started on your fitness journey, as Kitsilano is the perfect location for outdoor fitness.

Kitsilano waterfront homes have some of the most beautiful scenery in Vancouver but also some of the most expensive. Kitsilano real estate prices range from CAD 49,000 to CAD 17,800,000. Last 2020, the highest recorded home price was CAD 29.9 million.

West Vancouver

West Vancouver is located on the northern side of English Bay in the province of British Columbia. It’s linked to downtown Vancouver by the Lions Gate Bridge, which opened in 1938 and allowed North Shore towns to cross the Burrard Inlet to reach the city.

It’s no secret that West Vancouver is one of Canada’s wealthiest cities, as it’s home to several famous actors, professional athletes, and successful business people worldwide.

The view from West Vancouver residential properties includes lush green fields, an unobstructed view of the Burrard Inlet, and stunning sceneries.

This neighborhood also has many attractions such as ski resorts, beaches, golf courses, and parks, and it also hosts some of the North Shore’s major festivals.

In sum, it’s unsurprising that the average price range of homes in West Vancouver can reach CAD 22,880,000. This upscale neighborhood is home to some of the most spacious and stylish homes and a variety of amenities.
