The 6 Best Home Health Care Providers in Vancouver to Keep Your Loved Ones Safe and Cozy

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Facilities - Do they have all the equipment ready to go for any service? Is their clinic well-organized and clean, should you need to visit it?

Healthcare - Is the quality of their healthcare good and competent? Are they diligent when it comes to following up if needed?

Customer Service

> Professionalism - Are they punctual for their appointments? Are they polite and friendly when interacting with clients?

> Communication - Is the team adequately responsive when it comes to client’s questions? Are they good at explaining treatments and procedures?

Accessibility - Are they available at convenient times throughout the year? Is it easy to visit their clinic if necessary?

Taking care of yourself and dealing with healthcare can be tough. You can eat right and get enough sleep and exercise, but that doesn’t completely shield us or our loved ones from sickness and accidents.

And as we get older, the need for consistent, reliable care becomes even more important.

That reality hits home personally. With how busy my life gets, I can’t always be there for my loved ones when it matters most. And that’s precisely why I asked my team to help me search for the best home health care providers in Vancouver.

If you’re like me and have a loved one in need of care while you’re away, here are some of our favorite providers that might be worth calling.

How much does it cost to avail home health care in Vancouver?

Availing home health care services in Vancouver costs roughly $40 to $50 an hour, with additional costs depending on the services included, such as meal prep.

Well, it says it on the tin. Right at Home Canada came up on our radar as a popular name among folks not just in Vancouver, but throughout the country when it comes to all things home care. With a rep like that, how could we not see for ourselves?

What we immediately noticed was the variety of care offered by the company. Their health care services cover both nursing and special support for conditions like diabetes and Parkinson’s.

We also took note of their companionship and personal care offers, covering housekeeping and transportation for those who need assistance in such matters.

Upon reaching out, we were greeted by a responsive and informative support team, letting us know the coverage of their services in detail. We appreciated this clear booking process, helping customers connect with a caregiver as soon as possible.

This responsiveness was shared by their staff, or so customers we reached out to were happy to tell us. Caregivers reportedly arrived punctually and left on agreed-upon times, which we found handy for those who value their privacy and schedule.

That being said, a few customers let us know that reaching the caregiver after they leave for the day can be difficult. We’d highly recommend keeping in touch with your caregiver once booked to help ease this.

Pros

  • Prompt and punctual staff
  • Responsive and quick booking process
  • Wide variety of care services

Cons

  • Difficulty reaching and contacting caregivers

“These folks stood out from the rest right from the outset – Caring, professional & knowledgeable in their field. All our many questions were answered and everything was explained to us in a professional presentation and easy to understand terms.”

With a name like that, we just had to see if this provider lived up! Just Like Family Home Care got popular in certain neighborhoods in Vancouver, from Kerrisdale to Point Grey. As their name implies, the provider mostly offered family–oriented home health care.

The company itself offers various kinds of home care, as we came to find out. We appreciated their services spanning both short-term and long-term recovery plans, from overnight and respite care to full disability support.

When we spoke with their clients, the first thing we noticed was the amount of detailed information the team was willing to provide. These included their care plans, pricing, and other services.

Customers reported gaining a great deal from their free in-home consultations, which helped them work with the team to create a customized care plan for their loved ones.

These services were available on short notice too, as some customers told us. We found this convenient for last-minute plans or accidents, easing the strain of having to get back home to tend to your loved one.

That being said, a few customers did let us know that this timeliness could fluctuate when caregivers get delayed. In this case, some advised keeping in close contact with your caregiver to determine their schedule and plan for delays.

Pros

  • Customized care plans
  • Free in-home consultations available
  • Available on short notice
  • Informative staff and caregivers

Cons

  • Caregivers tend to get delayed

Each of them had a strong medical background

“Just like family home care came to our rescue recently when my husband returned home after 21/2 weeks in hospital. During the first few weeks he was home we had three different caregivers help him. Each of them had a strong medical background.”

– Ms. Brenda Appleton, Google Review

Intelligent, caring, resourceful and responsible

“I am elderly also and have asthma which means walking outside is difficult for me and my sister loves to be out. All the aides who have come are intelligent, caring, resourceful and responsible.”

With a history dating back to 1995, it’s not surprising to see Home Instead on the list. Vancouver locals pointed them out to us when we asked about senior home care, especially.

When we reached out to them ourselves, their offerings aligned with this reputation. The company offered largely personal and enhanced care for senior citizens, including regular medication reminders and even meal prep.

On top of this, we appreciate how transparent the team is about their pricing. They let us know about the details of their quotes and the cost of their care, which may help clients adjust their budgets accordingly.

Speaking of clients, we’ve heard positive feedback from them about the team’s timeliness. The caregivers reportedly adhered closely to their schedules and even went the extra mile to check in on their patients regularly.

We appreciated this proactivity, especially for their clientele!

On the other hand, a few customers did say that the team’s transparency in pricing didn’t extend to their caregivers’ availability as much.

Some reportedly experienced situations where their caregiver would be changed on short notice, which can be distressing for those who prefer one caregiver over others.

Pros

  • Regular check-ins and scheduling
  • Responsive and proactive team and caregivers
  • Transparent pricing

Cons

  • Caregivers may be changed on short notice

“I can’t say enough about the excellent service that Home Instead provided for our family over the past few years. Efficient, organized, responsive, and most important caring.”

A big heart is recommended for those practicing home health care, and where else to look than a center named after those? Big Hearts Home Care landed on our radar after locals pointed us their way, particularly for those looking into care for injuries.

What grabbed our attention when we checked them out was the sheer variety of patients and clients they accept. We found care services for everything from new mothers to elderly individuals, as well as accident victims.

It was these post-hospitalization and injury services that caught our eyes and those of other clients. The team was reportedly well-equipped to provide aftercare for these conditions, offering physical rehabilitation, pain management, and other services.

Customers also praised the company’s availability, particularly during the holiday season. Diseases and accidents don’t wait for anything, so having a home health care provider who answers in these situations can be convenient, to say the least.

However, we do have to note that these services can come at a higher price tag than we observed at other home health care providers.

We’d recommend consulting with them on their care plans to work out something affordable before booking a caregiver.

Pros

  • Professional and informative caregivers
  • Available even during holiday seasons
  • Reliable for post-hospitalization and accident cases

Cons

  • Higher cost of services

Heartfelt and professional services

“Having known Fatma for many years, she is someone I highly respect. Fatma and her staff, provide heartfelt and professional services. The decision on who and how to care for a loved one is never easy, but Big Hearts Home Care gives comfort.”

– Mr. Ahmed Raouf, Google Review

Went over and above to give us knowledge

“During our experience with Big Hearts Home Care, Fatma went over and above to give us knowledge and her honest and educated opinion on where my mom was at and what we should expect.”

Now, this might be a familiar name among locals in Vancouver. Empathy Health rose to prominence in the area for its wide support network. Whether you’re in Burnaby or Surrey, there’s a chance Empathy Health is just around the corner.

The company itself provides home health care services for senior citizens, and we noticed their respite care particularly. They could handle everything from light housekeeping to meal prep, on top of medical services like nursing and medication.

Clients we spoke to praised the responsiveness of the team. A few who made use of these respite care services praised the caregivers’ punctuality, with some arriving earlier than planned and helping keep customers’ schedules on track.

This was reportedly all without sacrificing the attentiveness needed for such care, as some clients told us. Most mentioned the caregivers’ willingness to sit and bond with patients to keep them calm and engaged all throughout the day.

That being said, some customers mentioned wishing that the company were more transparent about the caregivers’ schedules.

Some reportedly had trouble reaching their regular caregiver and had to explain previous schedules and requirements to new ones, which can be inconvenient.

Pros

  • Timely and responsive service
  • Attentive and reliable staff
  • Wide support network

Cons

  • Unclear caregiver schedules

“Their level of professionalism, care and ability to be flexible as needs change is top notch. From upper management to care givers, the team at Empathy Health Home Care really cares and brings incredible support at all levels.”

– Ms. Reini Alifah, Google Review

Helped turn a stressful time into something calm and manageable
