When I initially visited Burnaby Heights, I was only expecting to see their lively and charming little neighborhood. But after trying out some of the restaurants in town, I got hooked.

After visiting every other weekend, I finally decided to move to this place and be closer to their amazing local restaurants. Yes, that’s how good they are!

So if you happen to pass by Burnaby Heights, make sure to drop by these top restaurants so you can try their diverse culinary offerings—we’ll maybe even become neighbors eventually.

1. Glenburn Soda Fountain & Confectionery

For an old-school diner vibe, head over to Glenburn Soda Fountain & Confectionery to grab ice cream, which is perfect for kids (and the kids-at-heart!).

Here, you can choose to be seated at the counter and watch their staff prepare your ice cream favorites, even old-school offerings such as sundaes, malts—and, don’t forget the crowd-favorite banoffee split!

Meanwhile, if you need something to satisfy your hunger quickly, ice cream sandwiches are a great option in this ice cream shop too. You’ll love that they use homemade cookies, ensuring they only use freshly baked ingredients every day.

Aside from ice cream, you can also order milkshakes and soda floats here at Glenburn. Moreover, for the dads—or should we say, grandpops out there–you can enjoy a glass of your favorite rootbeer drink while enjoying the shop’s vintage setting.

If you want to get your pasta fix, Anton’s Pasta Bar is a clear winner around Burnaby Heights. Because of their massive servings, this restaurant is a great place especially if you’re coming with a big group (or even a small group with a big appetite!).

One of the crowd-favorites that you can order is the conchiglie zio carmelo, a pasta plate filled with Italian sausage, chicken, and pine nuts topped with a rich white wine sauce.

Here, they’re also generous in pouring those meaty sauces so you won’t need to worry about your pasta tasting bland. Meanwhile, vegetarians out there will love that this restaurant also offers a wide range of pasta and sauces for you too!

When you’re here, don’t forget to ask for their house bread and enjoy it with your favorite pasta flavors.

When it comes to Asian cuisine, you can trust Chad Thai to deliver delicious Thai food. In fact, they’ve been awarded the Best Thai Restaurant by Burnaby Now in 2023, which tells us that they really offer authentic Southeast Asian cuisine around town.

While you’re here, don’t miss out on their pad thai, khao gra pao with pork, and have mango sticky rice for dessert! Meanwhile, if you want a good mix of savory and sweet, try their red curry meals.

You’ll love that they serve in large portions, making them a perfect choice if you’re planning to eat with family or friends.

Additionally, you’ll love that this restaurant accommodates various dietary restrictions, allowing you to fully enjoy these Southeast Asian dishes without the guilt.

4. Cioffi’s Meat Market

Since 1990, Cioffi’s has been a great spot to grab your favorite Italian goods such as sausages, hams, pasta, cheeses, and spices. 

If you want to get something on the go then you can try out their loaded sausage sandwich topped with their homemade sauce, perfect for a filling lunch. Just don’t forget to get napkins as it’s quite messy to indulge in.

You can also choose to dine in and have their pre-made meals. There are also meatless options in this deli, so vegetarians out there can still order a thing or two from this store.

Pro tip:

Consider visiting Cioffi’s if you’re looking for dry-aged meat. They have a 30-day and 40-day dry-aged prime rib, which will be vacuum-sealed with olive oil and spices, perfect for your next BBQ night.

5. Chao Mami

Chao Mami, formerly known as Brokenrice, offers traditional Vietnamese food such as pho and vermicelli dishes. 

Aside from the classics, you can still grab new Vietnamese foods such as crab noodle soup, pomelo sweet soup, and jalapeño basil fried chicken wings. Don’t forget to try the mango salad if you prefer something fresh and light.

Meanwhile, you don’t have to worry about eating too much spicy food as you can control the spice level in every dish.

Consider ordering Chao Mami’s beef pho during happy hour, so you can get it at a discounted rate of $10. Happy hour time is from 2 in the afternoon until 6 in the evening every day.

For those of you who love grabbing fresh bread on a daily then don’t miss out on Burnaby Heights’ Valley Bakery. Aside from their freshly baked loaves, you can also try out their European-style cookies and pastries for a quick midday snack or dessert.

Some of the pastries that you can try here are croissants, cinnamon rolls, French tarts, and donuts.

Here, you can also order their buttercream-frosted birthday cakes on special days. They even have surprise baskets, perfect if you need to bring something during an event. 

Meanwhile, during holidays, you can try their cross buns which are all made onsite.

And if you prefer to munch on your pastries with coffee on the side, this bakery serves great lattes around Burnaby Heights too!

Consider ordering Valley Bakery’s frozen puff pastry so you can enjoy gourmet-style goodies any time you want. Keep them in the freezer, and just thaw it when needed!

Once you’re inside this steakhouse, you’ll appreciate the warm and romantic ambiance, perfect for date nights.

You’ll even feel extra romantic once you hear the piano. And if you’re lucky, you can even catch random artists, serenading the crowd. 

If you want to catch your favorite sports while enjoying bar drinks, you can opt for the bar area where the TV screens are located.

If you’re looking for traditional Chinese dishes when you’re in Burnaby Heights then Burnaby Palace Restaurant is the place to be. This restaurant has been known for its quick service, making it a great option if you prefer to grab a quick meal during the day. 

Some of the crowd favorites that you won’t want to miss out on are the spicy wontons, hot and sour soup, chicken corn soup, and braised beef.

It’s also great that their servers remain attentive throughout your stay. They will even make sure to keep your teapots full, while removing empty dishes out from your tables.
